There is a new trash clean up bill in front of the St. Louis Board of Alderman. According to Steve Conway, the alderman sponsoring the bill, he proposed it in the effort to get business owners to police the area around their business. As the bill stands now, a business owner would be required to clean up trash within 300 feet of his or her property. The bill applies to all carry out restaurants, fast food and convenience stores. I went around today and talked to business owners and each one I ran into made it clear that they were not fond of the bill. Conway says that he is will to negotiate the clean up distance if anyone is opposed to three hundred feet. While he is confident that this bill will pass by late summer a representative with the Missouri Restaurant Association says she thinks that this bill is unreasonable and unfair. So, I want to know what you think. Should business owners be forced to clean up more than their own property? Do you agree with the 300 feet rule? Any and all comments are appreciated. Erica |
