The American Kennel Club reports that in the first three months of this year there have been 30 thefts of pure bred dogs in the country compared to only 10 in all of 2007.
Thefts of these animals is way up because thieves can get as much as 800 dollars selling them, especially on the internet.
The 7 in Bourbon, Missouri seem to be an example of this type of crime.
The AKC recommends owners keep track of their dogs even in their own yards, don't brag about the worth of your dog, and get a micro chip registration.
It was surprising to me how sophisticated this crime is, and how smart the thieves can be in taking these dogs and leaving behind the mixed breeds.
