Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, making an historic run for president, recently campaigned in St. Louis for the first time since winning enough delegates to secure the Democratic nomination. You can watch my interview with Obama by clicking here now. This was my second time meeting Obama. Our first meeting also took place in the city's fast-growing Central West End in February 2007. Much has changed in the past 15 months. Back then, Obama arrived in a single SUV, protected by two off-duty city police officers. He flew commercial. I remember Obama having to leave the fundraiser at the corner of Euclid and Laclede to make sure he caught his flight. The next time I covered Obama in person was February 2008, just before Super Tuesday voting. At the Edward Jones Dome, an estimated 22,000 crowded inside and jostled for a place to stand to watch Obama speak. The next day, I interviewed Mitt Romney. You can see the interview by clicking here. His rally took place at Dave and Buster's. |
