Instead of viewing this as a voyeur--remember the reason for this blog...rarely do we get a glimpse of a crime from the outside in ---and from the inside out---this is a chilling piece of video!
It places you "inside" the crime scene. You hear the siren. You hear the shots fired "outside" the ambulance. And you hear the victim "inside" the emergency vehicle - A co-worker asks "are you okay?" - and the victim answers-- "I've been shot."
And then you are "outside" the ambulance again -as the "get away car" speeds past and in front of the ambulance.
The victim is 21 year old Patrick Bierman, an Emergency Medical Technician with Med Star Ambulance Service.
He is part of a crew that is treating a victim from a shooting on Monday night - May 19th, 2008 - in Washington Park, in the 13 hundred block of 51st Street.
Our News 4 photo journalist - Laura Bluedorn - admits it is a scene, with more bullet casings than she has ever seen in her 11 year career in news. She tracks down investigators on the scene -- who tell her there are-- in excess-- of 25 bullet casings on the ground.
And that Bierman and his crew of emergency medical technicians - are trying to save the life, of a male victim, gunned down at that location. But that EMT soon becomes another victim of violence.
This chilling glimpse -into this crime-- as it un-folds --happens as the emergency crew is heading west bound on Inter-state 64
Near the 25th Street exit, in East St. Louis.
Listen carefully, and watch closely and potentially you can help investigators, who are trying to track down the gunmen.
Those investigators with the Illinois State Police are hoping you will recognize the vehicle, or have heard any information about the
Crime -and, that your tip will help them take the criminals off the street.
And as you watch and listen to this video - recognize how--in a few seconds, the barrage of gun fire -- can alter the lives of even those, who are dedicating their lives -to helping all of us - when we need them the most.
But instead of viewing this as a voyeur - remember the reason for this blog. There is a young man - an EMT-- a brave soul - named Patrick Bierman - a man devoted to helping others -- who now needs your help -in tracking down the gunman.
