April 2008 Archives Is there a cougar roaming in Franklin County? Some people are convinced of it and I spoke with some of them. In fact this latest siting about a week and a half ago in Robertsville now has some wondering if a cougar is to blame for the attacks on dogs that many believed was done by a black bear. After 38 years a South St. Louis man is now facing charges in a double murder from 1970. It's interesting to mention that Theodore Kleine did go in trial for the murders of Alan Brian Bradford and Mary Seutter but the case ended in a hung jury; the vote to covict was 13-2. No one is quite sure why the case was never retried. But I'm told all the witnesses are still alive and so the prosecuting attorney in Dunklin County, in the booth... This week the family of a 6 year old, kindergartner contacts News 4 telling us their child somehow walked out the front door at Festus Elementary School and was gone off school grounds for what administrators say added up to about 10 minutes. Fortunately, Austin Langley wasn't harmed in any way. Still, his father, like many of us, still wondered HOW could it happen? After investigating the incident, I learne... I think like most people, I was surprised to find out that Missouri is third in the country for earthquake insurance purchasing, behind California and Washington. The Missouri Department of Insurance reports that over 200 insurance companies offer coverage, but the cost has gone up in recent years. The coverage, like flood insurance, needs to be purchased as seperate coverage. A popular tavern in South St. Louis goes smoke free. The owner of the Royale, Steven Smith, tells news four that he's always wanted to do it, but felt like he would loose too much business if he tried. Smith says a questionnaire filled out by his customers prompted him to put away the ashtrays. He determined that 6 percent of his customers did not want him to ban smoking, while 2 percent said if he did ban it they would be less likely to re... Out as Busch Stadium before Wednesday's Cardinals game I spoke with several members of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association's St. Louis chapter. They were there to say thank you to St. Louis on the one year anniversary of the awful campus shooting. They told me people in the St. Louis area had the largest outpouring of support for the school, outside of the state of Virginia. Coutless times this community has come through when others ... Identity theft has unfortunately become a by-product of our internet age--but a new scam has entered cyberspace. Businesses are being targeted by bulk-emailers who want to place an order for a product. It looks okay on the surface, well sort of, until you realize that the buyer is in Lagos, Nigeria--with a yahoo account as a business address. One local business was targeted here--the so called customer wanted refrigeration parts--20 pi...
The Associated Press says only five colonels have died in Iraq since the war began. Sadly, one of those five is from our area.
Colonel Stephen Scott was 54 years old. A man who followed his father into the military and found his calling in life. He loved fast cars (he owned a Corvette as a young man) and was remembered today as being not only a dedicated soldier, but a dedicated son, father, brother and family man. He was the kind...
The penalty for illegal dumping in East St. Louis is going up. Starting May 15th the minimum fine for dumping will be five hundred dollars. Currently the fine is 50 dollars. Mayor Alvin Parks Jr. tells News Four that they city has a serious problem and hopefully the new fine will be enough to convince people to not even consider dumping. Parks says that this is not an isolated issue and there are dump sites across the city. The city's gen... Health experts say the best way to avoid getting the Norovirus or Norwalk virus to wash your hands. It is highly contagious and seems to spread fast. These posts are usually related to our thoughts on the stories we cover.....not today folks. Today's my first day back in St. Louis after 4 of the most memorable days of my life. You see, I'm a Kansas girl through and through. And that means I bleed blue. KU blue that is. I grew up on KU basketball, and can remember game stats and game stories from 20 years ago! That also means I can remember every NCAA tournament heartbreak sin... Have you ever "Googled" yourself? Most of us have. Usually, there are a couple of surprises - someone may have posted details of the high school reunion for example - but they're rarely stunning. Today I was assigned to cover a truly disturbing story-- Madison County deputies were still shaking they're heads about the dangerous decision by a 15 year old Alton girl. Police say she drank large quantities of Jack Daniels whiskey at a bonfire party Saturday night. So much her blood alcohol level was .389--nearly five times the legal limit. The truth is she almost died, she was nearly in a coma when she was transported to St. Lou... |
