Destination Casino

3:36 PM Fri, Mar 07, 2008 |

Casinos aren't just for gambling anymore. If you think about Las Vegas, there are a million things to do at all hours of the day. Bored with gambling? You can hit the streets for sightseeing or a show. You can eat at dozens of different restaurants. That feel of casino-centered entertainment destinations is coming to St. Louis. Our area casinos boast 7 restaurants each. Harrah's just spent 17 million dollars on a buffet. It debuted the same day Lumiere Place opened. That was definitely to attract those hardcore gamers. But dancing, shopping and plenty of other options are available for those I call "soft gamers". Lumiere Place V-P Todd George say 30-35 percent of his guests are soft gamers. These are people who never gamble or spend less than 20 bucks on their visit to the casino. Still, Lumiere plays to them with food options, a spa and resort. George said something that makes sense. There are couples where one spouse may gamble but the other doesn't. By offering an entertainment destination at a casino, both he and she are happy -- not to mention the casino.
