Reflection

2:36 PM Mon, Feb 11, 2008 |

In the wake of the shooting in Kirkwood on Thursday hundreds have made it a point visit City Hall to pay their respects; many people left flowers and hung signs to show support for those who lost their lives that day. We now know that the gunman killed two Police Officers, the Public Works Director and two City Council Members. In the past few days, I've visited Kirkwood at least 6 times, and each time that we drive by City Hall I'm struck by the number of people quietly standing in front the memorial. The silence spoke volumes to me, it seems like everyone in the community is taking time to visit the site and reflect. No words, just a place to go, gather their thoughts and try to memorialize Tom Ballman, Bill Biggs, Kenneth Yost, Connie Carr and Michael Lynch.

Its mind boggling to think of the level of violence that was used. i was wondering if this type of crime could be considered a hurt crime? What i see is a 52 year old man that has shown alot of young people that, that is the way to go. its scary to think of it that way. thanks for your wonderful reports and insights.
Mukwati.
