Riverboat Gambling

4:45 PM Fri, Dec 21, 2007 |

Missouri's definition of a riverboat has definitely changed since voters passed riverboat gambling in 1993. But by all accounts, residents aren't unhappy with the changes. Casino gaming is the 7th largest industry in Missouri. Talking with Gambling Commission officials, it's clear the expansion of gambling on land has attracted more people to the past-time. In 1993, gamblers were required to take two hour tours. Today they come and go with the help of shuttles taking them from one casino to the next. And yet, all the casinos in Missouri still, technically, float. They are, by law, boats. Still, I challenge anyone who goes inside to find the starboard or port side.
