Hannah Montana....Take Notes!

9:17 PM Sat, Oct 06, 2007 |

If you have kids you're probably well aware of this story...and if you don't there's a good chance you've heard about it too--it's everywhere! Teen singer Hannah Montana a.k.a. Miley Cyrus is coming to St. Louis. Tickets sold out in an insanely short amount of time here, as they did in cities across the country. Fan club members got them, scalpers got them, lots of people got them. But lots more did not and that's made for thousands of heartbroken little girls, and thousands of parents desperate to mend those broken hearts. Some of them, so desperate that they are paying astronomical amounts for tickets...try $1000(!) The outrage has people denouncing Miley, angry at ticket brokers, angry at concert venues and it even got the attention of Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon, whose muscle got 1000 more tickets for the St.Louis show released by Hannah Montana's production company.
Now contrast that to what I heard about today in Kansas City, for tickets to see country legend Garth Brooks.

Apparently after watching the Hannah Montana fiasco, there was a system in place for his tickets. Fans lined up to get wristbands. Those wristband numbers were then called in a lottery type system to determine the order in which fans would be received by ticket agents. There were a LOT of people in line...but none of them seemed worried. "Garth takes care of his fans" they kept saying to reporters, "I'll see him somehow." When tickets went on sale...you guessed it. They sold out in minutes, just like Hannah Montana. But here is where I love this story. Garth Brooks immediately added another show. That one too, sold out in minutes. So Garth Brooks added not one, not two, not even three, but SEVEN more shows after that!!! That means he'll play a grand total of 9 shows in Kansas City! And yes, all of them are now sold out. Sure some people probably still missed out, but with 9 shows you have to think that the real fans got a seat. In case you need it, here's a quick recap. Hannah sells out....does nothing until the Attorney General grimaces, then her production company releases 1000 tickets for St. Louis. Garth sells out and decides he'll just play 9 shows. Hmmm.....
If Miley Cyrus wants her career to last anywhere near as long as Garth Brooks, she and her management may want to take notes. There's a reason he's got "friends in low places." What a class act.
Oh, and in case you're curious, those extra 1,000 Hannah Montana tickets? They go on sale October 13th at 10am. Good luck....something tells me you'll need it.
