Despite pressure from the St. Louis police department, the Post-Dispatch reported the theft of "perhaps $40,000 or more" from the evidence vault at police headquarters downtown, forcing the department to hold a news conference and admit an "on-going" investigation that began months ago has yielded no arrests.
Later, top police officials (speaking off camera) claimed the Post's dollar figure was wrong, but they refused to say how much money is missing, citing the continuing investigation.

It is really unfortunate that with the constant issues of crime increasing we cannot focus on resolving them because we have to focus on the police stealing.
