Go Birds!

8:22 AM Mon, Mar 31, 2008 |
Virginia

I can't believe Opening Day is finally here!! It's like waiting for Christmas when you were a kid, isn't it?
Everyone is in the Cardinals Spirit like Christmas, too. Smiley, happy fans walking around. I know people were giddy in the newsroom this morning.

This is the first year I have actually gotten to go to the game on Opening Day. Of course, it could be a long one with all the rain in the forecast, but I don't even care.

Debra

Not Deborah. Debra. I know because that is how she spells it on her name tag at her work.

You know those people, sometimes total strangers, who can make you smile and feel good inside no matter what kind of day you're having?

Debra is one of those people. She works at the Target near my house and I got the chance to see her again last night. She's a cashier.

She didn't recognize me while I was waiting in her line. I had...

What You Can't See

7:30 AM Wed, Mar 19, 2008 |
Virginia

Television news seems to be having an identity crisis these days. With viewers getting their news from the internet more and more, people in the broadcast news industry struggle to find how they can keep people watching.

They hire consultants who do research and survey viewers. Consultants say morning news viewers just want the weather, traffic and hard news. Hard news, meaning crime that happened overnight, politics and health stories...

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

8:34 AM Mon, Mar 17, 2008 |
Virginia

Top o the mornin' to ya! If you have the day off and plan on going to the parade in Dogtown, I may see you. They assigned me to cover it for the noon show today.
I like those stories. You know, the happy ones. It's a nice break for a reporter when you get to cover a story and people don't assume something bad happened when they see you there.
Too bad it's supposed to be a nasty, weather day. But hey, it's like a typical day in Irel...

Anyone Up For a Beer Run?

8:48 AM Tue, Mar 11, 2008 |
Virginia

I thought that would get your attention.
Hey, everyone knows Saint Patrick's Day is an excuse to party, but it doesn't have to be all about fatty food and booze. I challenge you to get your butt downtown this Saturday for a little 5 mile run. It's the St Patrick's Day Parade Run.
You don't have to run the whole way, you can walk and talk.
These people look like they had fun.

Thank You!

I am overwhelmed by the amount of responses I received from yesterday's post. I really appreciate it. You should know, that as trying as this has been, I am over the hump and in a really good place.

I don't want you to think that I shared that as a cry for help. I wanted to share it so people who may not be over the hump can see past their situation and know that it is okay.

God interrupts our lives to get our attention and put...

It's Been a Long Time

9:32 AM Wed, Mar 05, 2008 |
Virginia

Hello again. I have been told that I am in blog trouble. I know it's bad when my own father starts leaving comments on here telling me to make an entry.

Truth be told, I have all kinds of things I would like to say but sometimes I wonder if it would be appropriate.

Well, I am pulling the trigger on what has been on my mind of late. Here goes:

This has been the most challenging and yet life enhancing year of my life. I a...

HOLY BLOG, BATMAN...

11:24 AM Mon, Mar 03, 2008 |

I hear columnists say sometimes that a weekly column is like a heavy anvil hanging over you when you wake up each day. Good thing I'm not paid to blog...because it's been several weeks!
Sorry about that...as you can guess things get busy on occasion. Virginia and I should both be back at the blog wheel soon.

DON KING is a living legend in the sports world, and he stopped by the station while in town to promote h...
