I don't know about anyone else, but I'm already starting to miss Famous Barr. I got so used to making fun of the fact that every sale was the biggest "EVER!", that I kind of missed the point. My family just had to go to Macy's last Saturday, to see what all the buzz was about. My wife summed it up this way - "nice clothes, but more expensive than Famous." I wonder if other communities which lost hometown department stores are grieving as well? As I've moved around the country it's odd how attached you get to the local stores, and how you tend to identify with them, even if you don't shop there often. Now I fear they're all going to look the same, "but more expensive."
On a different note, if you're ever up late(or early, depending on your schedule) check out the Mark Reardon show on KMOX radio. I listen to his show on my way to work each day, and he's a breath of fresh air to St. Louis radio. This morning he was lamenting the fact that few news outlets showed the video of the planes hitting the WTC towers during yesterday's coverage. As you can tell from my blog, I couldn't agree with him more. Keep up the great work, Mark.
