Food for thought

8:22 AM Thu, Sep 28, 2006 |

Over the ten years I've been anchoring the morning news, we've had dozens of fitness "experts" on our show harping on the dangers of fast food. None had a bigger impact on me than Keath Hausher did today, with his demonstration of the calories in fast food, and how long some of it lasts. Click here to watch Keath's interview I may never eat french fries again!

Rev. Jerry Falwell knows how to stir it up, doesn't he? He said a Hillary Clinton Presidential run would bring more evangelical Christians to the voting booth than if "Lucifer" was on the ticket. He must have realized all the attention Hugo Chavez got last week at the U. N. The San Francisco Chronicle had a ball with it: San Francisco story

The accident on I-44 with the horses really touched a lot of people. It also spurred conversation about horse slaughterhouses, of which there are three in the U.S. One is in Illinois, two others in Texas. People are passionate about this because obviously horses are viewed differently by many than cows or pigs. I interviewed the General Manager of the Illinois facility, who argues farmers and ranchers need an alternative for aging or lame horses that are no longer "serviceable." The industry is regulated by the federal government, and the meat is in demand in European countries. It follows the old line of reasoning that if you like hamburger, don't ever watch it being made.
