911

I was sitting behind the anchor desk when the airplanes hit the World Trade Center towers, and like everyone, it's a moment I'll never forget. What does concern me is that some people will forget, especially with the decision by the network and local news executives not to continue to show the video of the planes hitting the towers. This is my opinion, not that of KMOV or it's management. I would never want people to see it so often it becomes blase, but at some point, people need to be reminded of the evil individuals who carried this out. Our children, and grandchildren, need to remember this day and maintain their vigilance, or there will be many more 9/11's in the future. Today we are only 5 years out from that tragedy, and already some have forgotten, based on a poll released today by the AP:
--Just over half in the poll, 51 percent, say they doubt that Osama bin Laden will ever be caught.
--Half say they feel the cost of fighting terrorism may be too high.
--Almost half, 45 percent, say they have less faith in the government's ability to protect them.
--Six in 10 say they expect there will be more terrorism because of the U.S. war in Iraq.
Personally, I take comfort in the fact there have been no more attacks here since 9/11. We must be doing something right. We need to continue to treat every day like 9/12/2001 - the day the U.S. started to fight back.
