Thousands of tombstones in the Washington Park Cemetery in Berkeley are hidden under tall weeds and out of control brush and trees. It's a disgrace. Now, several weeks after our story about the cemetery, Americorps and other volunteers are helping the new owner clean up the grounds.

The project begins Saturday at 9 am. The cemetery is located near Natural Bridge Rd. and Brown Rd. Owner Kevin Bailey, who bought the cemetery a few months ago for $2, took over the grounds because his father is buried there and Bailey wanted the cemetery improved. He lacks the money needed to turn it around, but he's hoping the community will help.
