East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks is pledging his unwavering support to Anthony Tarvin, one of the Mayor's political allies.

It's been a rather interesting few days at the East St. Louis Police Department.

On Friday, following growing pressure for his resignation, Police Chief Michael Baxton quit.

Possibly the next day, someone used a key to open four locked offices. Acting Police Chief Lenzie Stewart told me a bullet-proof vest and laptop computer are missing. The laptop belongs to a detective. The items were discovered missing this morning.



On Tuesday, Anthony Tarvin told me that the East St. Louis police department shouldn't have any officers who have been charged with a violent crime.

East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Baxton called me into his office this afternoon and told me the news that virtually everyone thought was long overdue.

Tonight, East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks told me he "absolutely" has complete confidence in Police Chief Michael Baxton.

There aren't many people who seem to share the Mayor's feelings. There is strong support among many officers, and East Saint Louis city leaders to fire Baxton or, at the very least, allow him to resign.
