February 2008 ArchivesExperience tells us that sometimes the bigger an animal or object is, the longer it takes to be moved. That seems to be the case with Wal-Mart, which continues to tell us it is working to change its corporate policy of throwing away food that reaches the "sell-by" or "freshness" date. As we documented in our initial report, Wal-Mart is the only major grocer in the St. Louis metro region which throws such food away. All others, ... Our investigation focuses on potential problems involving Moduvans, the low-end ambulance manufactured by Wheeled Coach, the largest ambulance manufacturer in America. The Ambulance Transportation Safety Task Force, an ad hoc group of Emergency Medical Service (EMS) professionals, is working hard to increase the level of protection of people riding in ambulances. The ATS Task Force is a deep source of information on this issue. Why? That's the big question everyone keeps asking about Tom Burcham. Why is he filing all these lawsuits? Why was he suddenly motivated to do this? When we interviewed Burcham about his campaign to overturn sales tax ordinances in several small Missouri towns, we asked the same question. For eight years, from 1997-2005, the Gaming Commission didn't add any names to the list. Until today, there were only 11 names on the Missouri list. Now, there are 29. Bel-Ridge is tucked up along I-170, not far from the airport. Retailers and gas stations line Natural Bridge from the interstate to Hanley Roa... Charles L. "Cookie" Thornton wanted his three minutes. In Kirkwood, members of the public are allotted three minutes each to comment on issues before the city council. It's a right Charles Thornton exercised often... and often with wild enthusiasm. Thornton's problems arose from his desire to rail against city leaders at every public comment period -- even if the matter up for discussion had no bearing on him personally... In our report you heard from Rob Semaan -- the former CEO of fig. -- for the first time since his company collapsed. His Maryland Heights-based company grew from a few local clinics to 18 clinics in 8 states. The allure of fig. was a treatment called lipo-dissolve -- a non-surgical, fat-trimming procedure. The company shut down in early December and filed for bankruptcy in early January, leaving hundreds of workers without jobs... Barack Obama raised a record $32 million in January for his Presidential campaign. The contributions will act like rocket fuel for the Illinois Senator who is trailing Hillary Clinton in the most recent polls involving most Super Tuesday states. The money will allow Obama to hire more staff and unleash an advertising blitz in key states. The dramatic surge in campaign contributions prompted me to take a look at some of the biggest dono... |
