Well, how about this...
Apple CEO Steve Jobs decided dropping the iPhone's price $200 just two months after its debut is not fair to tens of thousands of his hardcore customers.
Hardcore customers (like me) spent $600 to buy the iPhone when it was first released on June 30.
Hardcore customers (like me) paid a premium to get the phones first... and we gave Apple a bunch of free marketing as we showed the amazing little devices to our friends and co-workers. By the way... two of my co-workers bought an iPhone after seeing mine.
So hardcore customers (like me) felt downright hosed when Steve Jobs dropped the iPhone's price from $599 to $399.
Apparently, Jobs has heard from us.
From a letter posted on apple.com:
"...we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week. Stay tuned."
This can't be cheap for Apple. I have to guess it's going to cost the company tens of millions of dollars... even though it will be money poured right back into the company.
It's some of the best customer treatment I have ever seen.
Thanks, Apple.
