St. George police chief Scott Uhrig is the subject of a city investigation after news broke Wednesday about an incident of sexual harassment in the chief's past.
St. George mayor Harold Goodman tells News 4 Investigates the chief is under investigation and the city can make no further comment about the the case.
In 2000, Uhrig was accused of sexually harassing a 17 year-old woman during a traffic stop while employed as an officer with the Arnold police department.
Uhrig was the subject of a state investigation into the incident that concluded the then-officer's action "indicate[d] an especially egregious mental state, show[ed] that he cannot enforce the law, and [were] cause for discipline."
In 2002, Uhrig was demoted to the position of probationary police officer as a result of the state's investigation.
Mayor Goodman said he did not know of the state sanction against the chief's license until it was discussed on KMOX-AM radio Wednesday morning.
According to Goodman, Uhrig was hired by a previous administration.
Uhrig denies the 2000 incident took place.
