It used to be cool to use Google Maps to zoom into your house and check out your lawn from space.

But the defintion of "cool" changes fast in the internet era.

Yesterday, the folks at Google (unofficial motto: "Don't be evil") unveiled a tremendously cool addition to the Maps app called "Street View." It's a simple concept that was tried out previously by the crew at amazon.com on their A9 ...

This may not mean much to most people, but for a Chicago-native craving some home-town food... this website is the equivalent of internet porn.

It's a simple fact... Minors can't get alcohol unless a responsible adult helps them.

Here's another one... Alcohol is a leading cause of death in the teenage population.

And another... When you try to keep something -- like alcohol -- from the typically rebellious teenager, they will try to sneak it.

So what is a parent to do?

Ban their kids fr...

I think I've mentioned this before... but it bears repeating.

We have an alarming number of Chicagoans in the News4 megaplex.

Executive producers Bill Siegel and Scott Costa, producers Brad Brown and Bobby Cyphers, photographer Rob "Brother" Love, reporter Christine "Popeye" Doyle... and yours truly all hail from or spent some serious time in Chicago.

We've rallied around the Bears run to the Super Bowl, we held out hop...

If you're a regular reader of the DB, you may remember my obsession with a certain orange-flavored coffee beverage that used to be served by Starbucks.

It's called the mocha valencia -- and it's an insanely good blend of chocolate and orange flavors that can be enjoyed hot (in cold months) or iced (in the warmer months).

In December, the DB exposed Starbucks decision to discontinue the valencia sryup.

While some locatio...

Response to our story about the increase in St. Louis parking tickets was overwhelming.

Our voicemail was full and the e-mailbox overflowed with your messages.

Here's a sampling.

When the treasurer came on the news to say, from his mouth, that those tickets are not motivated by money, I wanted to scream. How can we fight this?

nopark.gifSo how can the police department and the parking violations bureau have different policies about parking tickets?

Blame it on one of the unique things about St. Louis government.

The mayor may be the city's chief executive and the board of aldermen may be the legislative body, but neither one has any...

I paid $3.71 a gallon for gas today.

It was one of the first stories I reported after arriving in St. Louis in November, 2005... but it feels like yesterday.

Let's step into the wayback machine and remember.

Petitions for the recall election of 22nd Ward Alderman Jeffrey Boyd were coming under heavy scrutiny. St. Louis election officials di...

deadlist.gifIf the government erroneously declares you dead, odds are you won't know about it until a letter shows up in the mail. That's what happened to most of the people we spoke with in reporting tonight's story.

But you can check to see if you've been added to "the dead list."

In this business, we sometimes have to step away from a story we've been working on for months... and declare it dead.

It doesn't matter how much time we may have invested or how much money we've spent on data analysis and other research... if the story is not there, there's no story to tell.

To be honest with you, I never set out to do a story about Social Secur...

hancock.gifJosh Hancock had a blood alcohol level of .157 -- a hair under twice the legal limit and well beyond the limits of good reason.

We now know the Cardinals pitcher spent the last hours of his life consuming alcoholic beverage after alcoholic beverage.

Based on his height and weight, some simple math...

Tonight, President Bush is expected to veto legislation that would begin America's withdrawl from Iraq.

It's a showdown between legislative and executive branches the media has seen coming for weeks.

So you think we could get this right.

Headlines and news reports from across the country trumpet the president's >> Continue reading: Veni, vidi, veto.
