It's the week before Christmas, so a couple of reporters are out on vacation. That means I'm working on a story for tonight's 5 p.m. newscast.
It's nice to work on a story that airs the same day for a change. There's a little rush that comes from the looming deadline.
Now, on to the story...
Last night, a veteran construction worker fell four stories to his death at the Syndicate Trust building rehab project.
Sidney Taylor was an employee of Environmental Operations, Inc. (EOI) His co-workers say the 49 year-old Taylor stepped on an unstable piece of concrete floor and fell through. Though a safety harness was available, the company's CEO says Taylor was not wearing one at the time of the accident.
EOI has a history of problems with job site safety, including a number of violations at the Paul Brown building at 9th and Olive Streets in downtown.
Stacy Hastie, Chairman and CEO of EOI issued a statement late this afternoon.
OSHA now has 180 days to complete its investigation into Taylor's death.
