krupp.gif"Jay" Krupp is accused of conning a number of women into thinking he is a modeling photographer.

They said Krupp approached them either in person or through an internet modeling site.... he told the women he was in the modeling business and was looking for models for his new lingerie catalog... he invited them...

Hello all, and happy Monday.

A night after the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series trophy, your friends here at News 4 St. Louis won a championship of our own.

Here is a complete list of our Emmy wins:

Let the time and date stamped on this entry record this moment.

I just saw the first Christmas commercial of the 2006 season.

Can we get through Halloween, first? Please?!

...but we have no shame talking about polls here at the Daily Briefing.

I got a peek at the latest KMOV-TV/St. Louis Post-Dispatch polling data this afternoon.

While I can't mention specifics, I can certainly tease you with vagaries!

Like... in the race for Illinois governor, it's looking like a healthy lead has emerged for the front-runner.

In the white-hot Missouri senate race... we'll be drinking plenty of co...

Oh, has Major League Baseball tapped a keg of anger.

Loyal Cardinals fans who hoped to see the Redbirds win the World Series in five games will now see a non-deciding game 4... if the weather permits.

You see... postponing Wednesday's game 4 means tonight's game 4 will actually be seen by fans who bought seats for game 5. Game 4 tickets will be valid for Friday's game 5.

Confused?

Get in line.

At the risk of sounding full of ourselves, we here at the DB will be boastful for a second day in a row.

News 4 St. Louis is the undisputed NUMBER ONE!

Not only did we win the October ratings period at 10pm for the traditional Monday through Frida...

My friends Thom and Jeff over on 105.7 the Point had your friendly neighborhood investigative reporter on the air yesterday afternoon.

We talked a little baseball and chatted about the stories we have coming up in the next month... but they were really interested in giving me a hard time about my appearance in the November issue of St. Louis Magazine...

A couple of media related odds and ends this Monday afternoon:

* * *

If you've ever done the drive from St. Louis to Chicago, you know it gets really boring for the hours you spend just outside Nowheresville, Ill. I made that trip to and fro' Chicago this weekend and hoped the Cardinals would keep me company during the dark and lonely hours on >> Continue reading: Media matters.

Jon Stewart has a funny little show on that cable network Comedy Central. Maybe you've heard of it... it's called "The Daily Show."

Anyway... one of Missouri's favorite sons, the former senator/attorney general John Ashcroft popped in last night to talk about his new book " >> Continue reading: Ashcroft on the hot seat.

So what's an "axis of evil" country to do when it gets sick of hearing the United States label it as a sponsor of terrorism?

Throw the accusation right back at the U.S., of course.

From North Korea's Naenara "news and information" website:

The US, chieftain of state-sponsored terrorism, is not qualified to talk about "terrorism." It should stop th...

We've been negligent in updating the DB and the video blog lately, so here's some eye candy for you.

For today's video blog... a peek out of our second floor window.

My apologies for the shaky camera work. It's ...

Let's think back to 2003... one of the rare years when the Cardinals did NOT win the National League Central crown.

Remember watching the Cubs roll over Atlanta in the NLDS? Remember those pitching gems by Mark Prior and Kerry Wood? Remember Carlos Zambrano's fit-throwing antics between 95 mph fastballs? As important as the stellar pitching and clutch hitting were to the Cubs' series win, something else was going on at Turner Field tha...

Bob Woodward's new book "State of Denial" is upsetting a lot of people in the corridors of power.

So when Woodward's interview with David Letterman was drowned out by an Emergency Alert System test on Tuesday night, some of you thought there was a deliberate effort on someone's part to shut him up.

Mel from St. Louis County wrote:

Last night at a little after 11:00 PM there was some sort of defense warn...

Let's see what we have here...

A sex scandal involving a member of Congress, teenage boys and party leaders who may or may not have known this was all going on.

A mid-term election that could shift the balance of power in both houses of Congress.

A war in Iraq that will soon have lasted >> Continue reading: Getting to know you...

Some of you have written in the past couple weeks asking why gas prices have been falling so dramatically.

While I don't have all the answers -- I've come across an article that does a pretty good job of articulating some of the key theories as to why we're paying a dollar less than in the summer.

Slate magazine paints its analysis with a fairly liberal dose of political c...

I noticed a striking picture on television Monday night.

A throng of red-clothed baseball fans whipped into a froth by yet another Cardinals post-season run... partying in front of the dusty, grey, vacant lot where old Busch Stadium stood.

It was the picture of potential.

The potential champagne spraying, trophy passing and victory parading -- if the National League Central champs can win 11 games before the other guys....
