Well moms, if you're unhappy with your "Baby Einstein" videos, now's your chance to make a trade. According to an article on CBS News.com, Disney has expanded a refund program for "Baby Einstein" videos based on some challenges to some of the "educational claims" made by the company. Basically, in 2006, the Federal Trade Commission said that there was no scientific evidence to support claims made on the "Baby Einstein" video packaging about what your baby can learn by watching "Baby Einstein."

From now until March 4, 2010, if you bought any "Baby Einstein" DVDs between June 5, 2004 and September 4, 2009. You can get a cash refund or you can make a trade. You can exchange your DVDs for a "Baby Einstein" book or CD, or you can get 25% off any "Little Einstein" product.

I don't know about you moms, but I love the "Baby Einstein" DVDs. I usually let my one-year-old son watch one during the day and he loves them. He laughs out loud at the videos and is completely fascinated with what's on the screen. Not only that, but in my own experience, I have seen my son learn from the DVDs. I bought him one "Baby Einstein" that was supposed to help babies learn sounds and it worked! It didn't take long for my son to start mimicking the sounds he heard on the DVD. Of course, my husband and I were working with our son to help him with words and sounds, too, so I'm sure the DVD was the only way he learned. None of this is scientific evidence, of course, just one mom's opinion and experience.

Okay, moms - check your pantries. There has been a baby food recall and the products in question were sold at the Mommy Mecca known as Babies-R-Us. Yikes!

Here's what you need to know. The recalled products are made by Plum Organics and specifically, it's the apple and carrot portable pouch baby food that has been pulled from the shelves. These are 4.22 ounce packages with UPC 890180001221 and a "best by" date of May 21, 2010.

The good news is that there haven't been any illnesses linked to these products. Even so, check your labels and if you have these products, get rid of them! I think all moms will agree with me on that one!

These apple and carrot pouches are the only Plum Organics products that have been recalled.

According to a new article, officials in Australia are encouraging child care centers and parents to ban TV watching for children under the age of 2. Here's why - according to the article, the Australian government has released a report saying, "exposure to television at such an early age can delay language development, affect the ability of a child to concentrate and lead to obesity."

I agree that too much TV is bad, but I'll admit, my 1-year-old Jude does watch some TV. He doesn't watch it a lot, but he's not on a TV lockdown either. I usually let him watch one 30-minute Baby Einstein DVD a day. He enjoys it, I've seen examples of what he has learned from watching it and the videos are geared for babies starting at around 3 months. I don't feel bad about letting him watch these DVDs. They're educational and made specifically for babies. They're especially helpful when my husband's not home from work yet and I need to cook dinner or when Jude just needs some quiet time to relax.

I know that throughout the day when I'm not with Jude, he watches some TV. But I know that the people caring for Jude don't just plop him down in front of the tube for an extended period of time. I'd guess that on an average day Jude gets about an hour of television a day.

There are moms out there who will disagree with me, I have friends that disagree with me on this, and that's okay. What do you think? Do you let your kids under the age of 2 watch TV? Did you watch TV when you were a toddler? What about programs made specifically for young children, are those okay for babies to watch?

Let me know your thoughts. Feel free to post your comments below.

In my last post, I opened the discussion about swine flu and kids. We had a couple of responses on my blog post and on our Facebook page and it seems there are a lot of moms out there (like me) who are hesitant about the swine flu vaccine and aren't sure what they will do for their children.

On Friday I took my one-year-old Jude to the pediatrician for his one-year check-up. Jude got the latest round of shots and round one of his seasonal flu shot. It was a rough appointment. So, I asked my doctor for his thoughts on the swine flu. He thinks that Jude should get the swine flu vaccine. I said, "So it's really that serious?" He replied, "I'm not really concerned about what the swine flu is right now, I'm concerned with what it could turn into." That scared me. I was worried enough about the swine flu in its current state, but when the doctor said that it could get worse, I had to stop and think a little more.

My doctor, whose opinion I respect and trust, says get the shot. I'm no medical expert, but I'm still a little concerned. I want to protect Jude, but I guess I'm still not sure what I'll do. He just seems so young to be getting a vaccine that hasn't been around that long, but he is also too young to battle a serious strain of flu that may get worse.

I feel more confused now than I was before the doctor's visit. I have to admit, I'm leaning more toward the vaccine than I was before Jude's appointment. What do you moms think? What are your pediatricians saying? Post your comments below, e-mail me (aspriggs@kmov.com) or follow me on Twitter (twitter.com/aftonspriggs) and post your thoughts there.

On a much happier note - my husband and I took Jude pumpkin picking this weekend and had a blast! Here are some photos from our field trip. Enjoy!

Have you heard about this swine flu thing? Apparently it's a big deal these days! Of course, I'm kidding, we've all heard all about the swine flu. News about the swine flu (or H1N1) is EVERYWHERE. I don't know about any of you other moms, but I feel overwhelmed by the amount of information that is circulating about this strain of the flu virus. This has been a popular topic of conversations with some of my mommy friends. How serious is it? Are you worried about Jude (my son) getting it? Will you get Jude vaccinated? Should I get my kids vaccinated? What happens if my kid gets it? What are the symptoms? When should I take my kid to the doctor or the ER? Whew! Let me tell you, honestly...I don't know the answers to these questions and I don't think many of us do. In my experience, there are a lot of moms out there who are worried about it, but they don't really know what to do.

I feel like there is so much swine flu coverage on TV and online, that I'm on information overload and I'm not sure what I will do when it comes to my son's health. I've been disinfecting the house and using a lot of hand sanitizer, but aside from that, I've been confused about what steps to take to protect my family from the swine flu. The swine flu vaccine is now available for children ages 2 and up, but that doesn't help me, the mom of a 1-year-old. And truthfully, I'm not sure if I would let my son get it anyway. Several moms that I've talked say they won't give their kids the vaccine because they think it was rushed into production and maybe not tested enough. Bottom line: Moms are worried, and so am I.

I don't have the answers, I just wanted to see what some of you other moms think. Will you get your kids vaccinated? What if your kids are too young for the vaccine? What are you doing to keep your kids safe from the swine flu? You can leave your comments below or e-mail me: aspriggs@kmov.com

I'm taking my son for his one-year check-up today, so I hope my pediatrician is ready to answer A TON of questions! I'll let you know what he says. In the meantime, here is some info from Web MD.com, maybe it will help you get answers to some of your questions.

My baby boy turned 1 over the weekend and we survived the big birthday weekend extravaganza! It was hectic and messy, but we had a blast celebrating Jude's first birthday. On Saturday my best friend and I threw a party for our boys. They are only 12 hours apart, so we thought it would be fun to celebrate together. They each got their own little birthday cake and...I think the pictures will show how much fun they had!

Here are the before pictures:

Here are the clean birthday boys. That's Jude in the brown shirt and Landis in the white:

Here's Jude really digging into his cake. This was his first sugar rush!

He's starting to get the hang of this present thing. By Christmas, he'll be a pro!

After the combined party on Saturday, we had a family party on Sunday (Jude's actual birthday). Jude knew what to do with cake by Sunday:

Jude wanted to share his cake with Auntie Aubrey too!

We had a great time celebrating Jude's birthday, surrounded by family and friends and lots of cake! And I was able to enjoy myself and not stress too much over the party hosting. I can't believe it's been a year since we welcomed Jude into our world. It's been a fun year and I'm looking forward to the adventures that life as a mommy has in store for me!

I can't believe my little boy is about to turn 1!!! It's just unbelievable. It seems like not that long ago I was blogging about cravings and fear of delivery and now I'm blogging about planning my son's first birthday party. Time really does fly!

Well, the big birthday bash is in the works. I'm actually having a whole weekend worth of celebration for Jude's birthday. First, I'm hosting a party for Jude and his BFF Landis. Landis is my best friend's son and he and Jude are just 12 hours apart. Here are the boys. Jude's the one looking at the camera.

My friend and I were due the same day and when I called her to tell her that Jude had arrived, she told me she was headed to the hospital. It was just amazing! We wanted to be able to celebrate our boys' birthdays together so we're having a combined party the Saturday before their actual birthdays. We have been to the party store several times and have planned out every detail to make sure we have a special party for our boys. It has been so fun picking out the decorations and cake design. I can't wait to see my house all decked out with the number 1. There will be plenty of pictures!

Next on the party agenda; we're having a family celebration on Jude's actual birthday at our house. My family and my husband's family will be there, so it should be a full house. So yes, being the crazy mom that I am, I have committed to hosting two birthday parties in two days. Right now I'm having fun doing the planning, but I'm starting to stress about the actual hosting. I've already decided to just relax and enjoy the celebrations. This is Jude's first birthday and I want to have a wonderful day full of memories not a day full of stressing over having everything perfect. Whether or not I'll be able to do that...we'll see.
I hate when my little boy gets hurt. It just breaks my heart! Now that my 11-month-old son Jude is toddling, the bumps and bruises just keep coming. I know there's not much I can do. I can't bubble wrap the kid...or can I...hmmm??? I do my best to keep him safe, but I can't hover over him every second of every day and even when I'm right there with him, he still falls. Like any parent, though, I want to make sure I'm not doing anything to put my little guy in harm's way. I would have never thought this could be dangerous:

That's my husband Ryan taking Jude down a slide. Something I thought every parent does. Apparently, it can be dangerous! According to an article on MSNBC.com, the added pressure of a parent's weight going down a slide can snap your child's leg if their leg gets wedged on the slide. The article goes on to tell this horrifying story about a mom who broke her 18-month-old daughter's leg by riding down a slide with her. I can't imagine how I would feel if I did that to Jude. The article says incidents like this are more common than you might think.

I know I sound like a paranoid mom by blogging about this, and to some extent I guess I am. But I know that I don't want to take any chances when it comes to my son's safety. Read the article for yourself and let me know what you think. Until Jude's big enough to do the slide all by himself, I think we'll stick to the swings!

I have a problem. My 11-month-old son is quickly becoming a picky eater. I guess this is pretty common for kids. But here's why it bothers me. A) He hasn't always been a picky eater. He used to be open to trying all kinds of foods, then one day, he just stopped. B) I go to the extra effort of finding new baby-friendly recipes for him, I make them and then he acts like I'm feeding him garbage. It is so frustrating. C) I'm worried about him not getting enough nutritious foods.

Here's the dinner scenario at the Spriggs' house. I make dinner. We sit down as a family to eat. I start out feeding Jude. First bite, Jude spits it out and makes a face like I just gave him the most disgusting food he's ever tasted in his life. Second bite, Jude eats it and realizes I'm not trying to poison him. Third bite, he realizes I'm trying to feed him with a spoon and gets mad, pushes the spoon away and spits out the food. Bites four and five he takes because I feed him with my fingers. Bite six, he spits it out. He is officially done with dinner and he's mad. How dare you try to feed me a nice meal, mom! This is every night! Moms, I'm sure you can see why this is a little frustrating.

I thinks Jude's hatred for dinner time stems from the fact that he would rather feed himself. That's what we were doing for the most part. Now he wants to squish his dinner instead of eating it. That's why I've reverted back to the spoon. Now the spoon makes him mad.

Jude's pickiness has gotten worse the last couple of weeks. Most nights, he won't eat dinner AT ALL! The only thing he will eat for dinner are those Gerber Pasta Pick-Ups and I refuse to just feed him the same thing every night. I think it's important for him to try new tastes and textures. What do I do? I can't figure out why this kid hates dinner. I'm especially worried because he'll be off formula in just a few weeks, and I'm worried about him getting the right nutrition in his diet. Any tips moms? How do you get a picky eater to eat?

It's official - my 10-month-old son Jude is walking! I can't believe it! My husband was home with Jude last Friday and called me to tell me Jude was walking. I was so excited, but I wanted proof. So Ryan (the hubby) set up the camera on his computer and caught Jude taking some of his first steps. Click here to watch the video

When Ryan sent it to me at work, my co-workers and I gathered around my computer to see the big event for ourselves. We cheered, I beamed with pride and I have to admit, my eyes welled up a little. I just can't believe how fast my little guy is growing up! It's just incredible how quickly it goes by.

Now that he's off and walking, there is just no stopping him. He is into everything. Ryan and I had to go out and buy even more baby-proofing gear. I thought chasing after a crawling baby was tough...now I know, a walking one is even tougher. Wish me luck!

I think it's part of the mommy DNA. Moms love bargains, we love to brag about all the amazing deals we get and most moms that I know love yard sales. I am no exception to those common mom traits. I love the hunt for a good deal!

This past Saturday, my fellow-mommy friend and I woke up early and hit the yard sales. It was a blast! We mapped out a route and started making the rounds. We were determined to find some amazing deals to brag about...and we did!

I got some really cheap, but well-kept winter clothes for my 10-month-old Jude. I also got a seat to put him in at restaurants and a few toys. But this was my biggest find...my yard sale prize...

In case you can't tell what it is, I'll explain. It's one of those pop-up tunnel and tent sets. It has 4 tunnels, 2 little tents and 1 big tent. This thing is huge! It takes up the entire foyer and part of the dining room at my house. The funny thing is that my husband and I were going to buy one of these for Jude for his 1st birthday (which is coming up!) and we had already started shopping around for one. The one we wanted to get him was 70-bucks!!! I found an amazing deal on this tunnel system...it was just 5-bucks! Can you believe that??? What a steal! I'm so proud of this one, as I'm sure you can tell.

Moms, share your bargain hunting tips with me. Where do you look for the deep discounts - yard sales? outlets? consignment shops? Share your stories with me!

While we're on the topic, I've got some info on another sale for used baby stuff. It's next weekend at Lindbergh High School. Click here for all the details.

The CPSC's website says that an 11-month-old got one of the nails "forcefully lodged in his throat." The good news is, the little boy recovered from the choking incident.

So, parents, check out your toys. If you have one of these, the CPSC says that you should take the nails away from your kids. The company is offering replacement nails.
On Thursday during our morning show, Awake, we did a preview of the big consignment sale out in St. Charles. During our live shot, we happened to show a product called the Pop-a-Tot. It's basically a portable activity center for babies. Let me tell you, the Awake e-mail inbox went crazy! A ton of moms e-mailed asking where they could find this product. We also got an e-mail from Stacy Ellsworth, a local mom who actually invented the Pop-a-Tot. So, to help all of my fellow mommies out, we asked Stacy to come to the studio and show off this baby gadget that had all of our viewers talking.

Of course, we needed a model to try out the Pop-a-Tot. Turns out I knew a certain 10-month-old boy who worked out perfectly. Here's the video of the interview with Stacy. That's my little guy Jude in the Pop-a-Tot.

Click here to watch the video

I absolutely LOVE the Pop-a-Tot. It's such an easy thing to just pack up and throw in the car no matter where you're going. It folds up to the size of one of those lawn chairs in a bag and its really light. We all know that an excer-saucer is great, but its difficult to bring on the road. The Pop-a-Tot is perfect for the baby on the go. It keeps Jude entertained, keeps me from chasing him around and its great if you need to feed your little one if you're out camping or at a soccer game. The best part is...Jude loved it! He normally hates being in anything that will confine him, but he really enjoyed the Pop-A-Tot. Believe me, I'll be buying one of these in the near future.
