Locked Out...Again!!

12:53 PM Tue, Sep 16, 2008 |

Can I just say that my 2 1/2 year old keeps me on my toes? Thursday morning he locked me out of the house. It's the second time he's done it in as many months. I had just walked out to the mailbox, leaving Drew inside the house and Sean hanging out in his swing. As I was walking up to the door I heard a click and realized Drew had just set the deadbolt.

I yell through the door, "Drew, please unlock the door for mommy." He tries, but with no luck.

"Okay, Drew, just turn the lock back the other way," I pleaded. "Then we can go to the park." That didn't work either. Finally he just said "No, Mama," and walked away.

So there I was stuck outside in my jammies, trying to get into my own house. We have a keypad on the garage but the inside door was locked so that was not an option.

I finally realized I was going to have to break in. I pulled out the screen of the front window and got in that way. Thank goodness we didn't have that window locked that morning. Drew thought it was pretty cool that I was coming in through the window.

As I mentioned, this is the 2nd time Drew has done this to me. The other time we were all on the back deck and he pulled the main kitchen door shut behind him. We have a doggy door on the back screen door so we usually just leave the kitchen door open, but locked. As soon as he pulled it shut I knew we were in trouble.

That time I lucked out...I had been out in the garage earlier that morning so that door was unlocked.

I guess I need to hide a key somewhere or always take my keys with me, huh?

My oldest daughter did the same thing to me when she was 2 years old...husband was in Chicago for work at the time. House was totally locked up, and I ended up calling the fire dept.. They broke into a window and opened the door. My neighbor, unfortunately, was sure to get pictures...
