August 2008 ArchivesToday Sophie didn't have school. Telling her that was like telling her she couldn't go to a birthday party. Holy Smokes!!! I seriously don't remember loving school as much as Sophie does. Everyday she is full of stories. Her folder is full of masterpieces that she hopes will rotate their way onto the fridge. I'm considering buying a larger fridge just to accomodate the artwork. As parents we've also run into a bit of a situation with th... Throughout this pregnancy there have been several things that have been a huge help to me. The support of my husband, family and friends, the generosity of those who have bought things for our baby boy or who have given me awesome hand-me-downs, and the advice of moms who have been there and done that - these things have been so valuable to me. But...there are a couple of things that I decided I could not have lived without during my pregnancy... Another celebrity baby has made his way into our world. Rocker-chick Gwen Stefani gave birth yesterday to a little boy. Now the part I always look forward to...what did they name him? Zuma Nesta Rock. Yes, that's the precious baby's name. Interesting to say the least! Why didn't I think of that? Too bad it's taken now. Bummer. I'm all for unique names. My name (Afton) is different. Aside from the city, you don't hear it that much. I lo... Yesterday I had a scare with my 23 month old daughter. It wasn't a cut with scissors or a severe injury. She decided at 1:15 that she wasn't going to take a nap. Doesn't sound like a big deal but to mommy no nap causes panic. I have a routine on my days off. We get up, go to the gym, come home for a snack, play , have lunch and nap. There is some variety with playdates, chores and errands but the nap is a must -- usuall... The last time we "talked" I was headed to the dreaded doctor's office for my regular visit. I told you at the end of the last blog that I would let you know how the visit went. Well...good news! I only gained one pound, which is exactly on target. My doctor was so proud of me. I told her how hard I had been trying to eat healthy and exercise. Not...
I'm going to the doctor today. Not that this is a big event in my life, I go every two weeks and soon, I'll be going every week. But, no matter how many times I've been there, I dread it every time. The reason...that horrible, awful scale! No woman likes the scale, at least none of the women I know. During my pregnancy, however, I have found a new hatred for this contraption. Here's why...during my first appointment at my current OBGY... I knew as soon as I became pregnant with my first son that I was the perfect candidate for an epidural. Reason 1: I'm not fond of pain. Drew's birth couldn't have been easier. I was induced because my blood pressure shot up and given the epidural at the appropriate time. Yes, th... Looking to save a few bucks as you stock up on diapers, formula and bibs? It's not easy with gas and grocery prices so high these days. Here are a few things I do to save money...hopefully you'll find them helpful. Feel free to post your money-saving ideas, too! 1. Check out www.mommysavesbig.com. Go to the printable coupons section and you'll find all kinds of goodies. I love the 20% off coupon for Children's Place...it'... On Saturday I marked another milestone in preparing for the arrival of my baby boy... the baby shower. Love 'em or hate 'em, baby showers are practically a rite of passage for the new mom and her baby. From the goofy (and sometimes humiliating) games to the ooohing over all the tiny baby things, baby showers are a fun way to celebrate and share the excitement of adding to the family. I had a wonderful time with friends and family on Saturday a... Right now, I'm at a very busy time in my life. My husband and I are still trying to get settled into our first home. We just moved in last weekend and are still unpacking, painting and making minor fix-ups to the house, a task that keeps us busy everyday. Also, I'm 7 months pregnant with our first child. Which means, what's left of our time is spent gearing up for our baby boy's arrival. So things at the Spriggs' house are pretty hectic right ... It's not often I miss a day of work, but my two year old had one of her rougher weekends. It's summertime in St. Louis and that means blazing hot temperatures and humidity so thick you could slice it with a knife. Every year as the temperatures go up, we hear terrible stories of babies dying after being left in hot cars. These stories break my heart. As a mommy-to-be, I worry about my baby's safety constantly. I have a big fear of my baby boy being left in a hot car. Not that my husband and I are irresponsible, nor is anyo... Hi Everyone! This is my first blog so let me introduce myself. I'm Jennifer Murphy, a proud mom of 2 boys: Drew is 2 1/2 and Sean is 4 months. I am by no means an expert, but I just wanted to pass along 10 things that I've found helpful (in no particular order) when it comes to having a baby. Feel free to add to the list! 1. Read or watch the DVD version of "Best Baby on the Block" by Harvey Karp. He talks about...
There are a lot of things you hear about when you are pregnant. There are a lot of things you can't eat, or can't do, but there are also things that you are told will start happening to you. I didn't really believe in the whole "nesting" thing until it started happening to me. Let me tell you, the nesting phase of my pregnancy is in full swing. My husband and I have been in the process of moving for the last two months. We bought a hom... |
