Well, the groundhog saw his shadow this morning...6 more weeks of winter! Maybe that's why the event options are a little on the slim side this week. Read on for my top picks this week as well as everything you need to know about them. Thursday February 5: Schlafly Aleympics-Held at local bars and restaurants where "athletes" compete in several feats of strength and agility. Events include Coaster Tossing, Doubloons (a Mardi Gras-themed version of quarters) and Cup Stacking. Tonight's events will be held at McGurk's, Cicero's and Bar Louie. The Aleympics will continue every Thursday leading up to the Mardi Gras Parade. After the parade, the Aleympic Finals will be held in Soulard to crown the Schlafly Aleympians. Friday February 6: Wine Taste, 5:30 p.m - 9:30 p.m. at Mad Art Gallery, 2727 S. 12th Street and Lemp Grand Hall, 1817 Cherokee Street. $30.00. Attendees will receive four food sampling tickets with their taste booklet. Featured wines are available for purchase. There will be trolleys available to transport ticket holders between the two venues. Opera Theatre of St Louis Wine & Beer Tasting-from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Guests will gather in the rehearsal halls of the Sally S. Levy Opera Center to taste more than 40 wines and specialty beers and enjoy an array of hors d'oeuvres. Guests will also have the opportunity to bid on silent auction items including rare vintages, wine and beer-related gifts, exclusive fine dining packages, jewelry and more. Tickets are $75 and up. American Legion Post 162, 9305 South Broadway. $20 per person, tables of 8. Price includes beer, wine and soda---you bring your own treats and snacks. Crystal Cajun Cook-Off. 12pm-4pm at the Casa Loma Ballroom (3354 Iowa at Cherokee), $30. A great afternoon of food, music, competition and drinks. Attendees are provided four food tickets and unlimited samples of Schlafly Beer and Pepsi products. Live music by Spur. Alive Magazine's Buzz List Launch Event, hosted by Donnie Avery of the STL Rams. 9pm at Lucas Park Grille. $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
