about meWhen I first came to St. Louis, I searched for some type of calendar that highlighted the types of events that I would be interested in attending. |
The Young Friends of the St. Louis Art Museum share a desire to enhance their knowledge of art and to meet others also interested in art and a willingness to support the Saint Louis Art Museum - while having fun! Throughout the year, members hold events that highlight the Museum and increase the awareness of art and culture in St. Louis. There are exhibition previews, collection tours, receptions and fundraising events. Proceeds are put in the Young Friends Art Purchase Fund, which assists in the purchase of important works of art for the Museum's collection. Since 1994, the Young Friends have helped purchase six works of art. From the intimate Curators and Cocktails tour series to large fundraisers such as the annual Bacchus at the Basin: St. Louis Wine Festival Preview Party, Young Friends events attract new Museum supporters and serve as a connective bond between St. Louis' young professional class -- successful, cultured, and driven men and women in their 20's, 30's and 40's. The next (non sold-out) event for the Young Friends: Meet the Artist: Claudia Schmacke. Friday, April 3, 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Young Friends Members only; Free. This is a special tour and dialogue with a Berlin-based artist whose work is the focus of this spring's Currents exhibition, and Charlotte Eyerman, curator of modern and contemporary art. Before the tour, Young Friends Members are invited to meet for cocktails in Puck's Restaurant.
