Things slowed down around the holidays but as promised, this week is a lot more active! I'm really looking forward to Wednesday night's event at Modesto, one of my favorite restaurants! The Loop Ice Carnival looks quite interesting as well...a Frozen Buns Run and Human Dog Sled Races...how can you beat that? For more on these and lots of other choices, read on! Tuesday January 13: JOIN CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN IN BENEFITING RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE. Print the Philanthropizza flyer at www.tinyurl.com/pizzapromotion and present it to your server and 20% of your check will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Metro St. Louis. Any California Pizza Kitchen in St. Louis, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday January 14: Metropolis St. Louis Trivia Night, 5:30pm at The Bluebird, 2706 Olive Street. $5 at the door gets you free food (courtesy of Blues City Deli) and drink specials, as well as 5 rounds of St. Louis trivia. Happy Hour runs from 5:30-7 and trivia will immediately follow. The proceeds of this event go to fund The Lot- an annual outdoor music festival in August that's free to the public. Launch Party of Havana Beverages. 5:30-9:30 p.m. at Modesto Restaurant, 5257 Shaw Avenue- $25 at the door. Proceeds benefit Friends of Wings. Beverages will be accompanied by Modesto's signature tapas. Friday January 16: Gateway Council and Old North St Louis Restoration Group host "Friends of Hostelling Trivia Night" at Maryland Heights Community Center, 6:30p.m.-midnight. $120 for table of 8. Complimentary beer, soda and snacks. Third Friday Open House at the Third Degree Glass Factory, 6-10PM, free. Glassblowing and flameworking demonstrations, live music, glass art by Third Degree artists for sale in the HotShop Gift Gallery, and art exhibits in the Third Degree East Gallery. Cash bar. Saturday January 17: The Loop Ice Carnival 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. along Delmar from Kingsland to the Wabash Station. Celebrate winter in the Loop with ice sculptures, snowboarding, music, games, arts & crafts, chili cook-off and more. Schlafly Cabin Fever at Schlafly Bottleworks, 1-5PM. $20 in advance, $25 day of event. An afternoon of big music, big beers and big fun outside Bottleworks. Admission includes a commemorative tasting glass and 18 two-ounce samples of Schlafly Beers. Saturday & Sunday January 17-18: Cardinals Care Winter Warm-Up at the Millennium Hotel, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Autographs, entertainment, memorabilia, door prizes, q&a sessions and more. Ages 16 & over, $40; ages 5-15, $5; kids under 5, free. All proceeds benefit Cardinals Care, the team's community foundation supporting kids. Sunday January 18: Tony LaRussa's Stars to the Rescue to benefit his animal foundation, ARF as well as local groups like Stray Rescue-at 6:30p at the Chaifetz. Tickets start at $25. Some of the performers this year are Vince Gill, local national comedienne, Kathleen Madigan, members of REO Speedwagon and many others.
