Have you been to the Missouri History Museum Lately? When I was in grade school, I hated history class. Looking back, I wish I would have paid more attention.

The Missouri History Museum seeks to deepen the understanding of past choices, present circumstances, and future possibilities; strengthen the bonds of the community; and facilitate solutions to common problems.

One of their values that I admire is that they facilitate experiences that encourage people to consider the perspective of others.

If you're looking for more than just a visit to the museum, there are lots of opportunities for young professionals to get involved!

They offer a chance for us to come together to learn about the community and the greater world around us, through interaction and discussion at events like their film series and lectures.

The Community Cinema film series is an opportunity to learn about and discuss current topics by viewing an advance screening of an ITVS documentary which is followed by a panel discussion. Film topics have included the debate over subsidized corn and modern farming practices in the U.S., the historical banishment of African American residents in Pierce City, Missouri, and the life and career of Ralph Nader. The discussion continues after the program at The Royale tavern, 3132 S. Kingshighway. Films are generally screened the first Thursday of every month, September - May at 7:00pm. Admission is free.

The next Community Cinema event is Arusi Persian Wedding on Thursday, February 5 at 7:00 pm. This is Iranian-American filmmaker Marjan Tehrani's film about her brother's return to Iran with his American wife to have a traditional Persian wedding and explore his lost heritage, just as the U.S. begins its invasion of Iraq.

In addition to the film series there is also the theater season, free Twilight Tuesdays concerts on the north lawn, workshops in dance and genealogy and the upcoming E. Great post. We (the couple from the second photo) love it too. Reminds me. I need to get up my photos of our last MO History visit - a Cinema Series visit and screening of Tulia, TX. It was great.
