about meWhen I first came to St. Louis, I searched for some type of calendar that highlighted the types of events that I would be interested in attending. |
Can you believe the Christmas season kicks off in St. Louis on Friday?!? As I drove downtown today I saw them setting up all the decorations, getting ready for the Festival of Lights. I have found that one of the best ways to meet people in town is to get involved in local young professional organizations. (I wonder how old I have to be before I stop calling myself a young professional?) There are two great happy hours this week that are great for that, make sure to catch River City Professionals event Tuesday and Cocktails For A Cause on Wednesday. There's plenty more to choose from, read on for all the details! Monday November 17 - Sunday November 23: 17th Annual St. Louis International Film Festival at The Tivoli and Hi-Pointe theatres and other venues. Tuesday November 18: River City Professionals November Happy Hour and Toy Drive. From 5:30-9PM at Point Of View Restaurant-30th Floor of the Laclede Gas Building, 720 Olive. Bring a new unwrapped toy for the Ronald McDonald house. Wednesday November 19: The Riverfront Times presents Cocktails For A Cause at Cabin Inn in the City Museum from 6-8pm. With your $10 donation to Studio STL, receive select Schlafly products throughout the evening. November 19-23: Menopause The Musical, playing at The Roberts Orpheum Theater. This show is supposed to be hilarious! Friday November 21: Macy's Festival Of Lights at Kiener Plaza, 5:00 p.m. This is the kickoff of the holiday season as the switch gets flipped and Downtown Saint Louis lights up. There will be a fireworks display and our own Robin Smith will do a reading of 'Twas The Night Before Christmas. Santa will lead a procession from Keiner Plaza to Macy's for pictures, music and entertainment and snacks. Third Degree Glass Factory's "Third Friday" Open House, 6 - 10 p.m. Watch glassblowing, shop for glass gifts, or make a keepsake. Live music at 8pm, appetizers provided. Saturday November 22: Ante Up For Animals Texas Hold 'Em Tournament at 5:00pm at Lumen. Presented by Companion Animal Alliance and benefits St. Louis area animal shelters. The grand prize for the tournament is a seat in the 2009 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas (or cash equivalent). Speakeasy Grand Opening Party in the Thaxton Building 1009 Olive Street.
