This will be Mike Martz' most difficult Sunday in his coaching career. He's not going to know what to do with himself watching the game. I hope somebody leaves him alone and closes the door behind him. It may be a blessing--if the Rams play well and Steve Fairchild does a solid job calling the plays. It might convince Martz that he can delegate even more game day responsibility.

Mike Furrey is getting his shot at free safety but what a way to get your first NFL start: facing Peyton Manning and the Colts. The Rams defense has been too complicated for its personnel. That may be about to change. Expect a scaled back defensive game plan meaning fewer coverages which means less thinking and more reacting.

Joe Vitt has talked with Patriots' coach Bill Bellichick about how to defend the Colts. The Colts offensive line allowed just 14 sacks last season. They're even better this year--Manning has been sacked ONCE in five games. By comparison, Marc Bulger has been sacked 20 times.

If Manning is not the best quarterback in the league, he's definitely the most cerebral. He calls the game from the line of scrimmage. The Colts won't beat themselves. They've committed just five turnovers in five games.

A big key to the Colts' defensive resurgence---red zone play. They're allowing touchdowns only 22 percent of the time, second best in the NFL. The Rams will need points on any and every possession they have inside the 40 yard line.
