Not 'Gonna Do It

6:00 PM Thu, Jan 29, 2009 |

Do not ask me to root for Bill Bidwill's football team to win the Super Bowl. If you want to, I understand. But for me that request comes two to three decades too late.

Let me say this--I understand the Kurt Warner connection for local fans. And, yes, I would be happy for Kurt if he won the big one again. It almost certainly would cement his Hall of Fame credentials. But a Super Bowl for Warner means a Super Bowl for Bidwill and therei...

Completely Off Topic(sort of)

5:33 PM Thu, Jan 29, 2009 |

Forgive me for drifting from the sports world here. Indulge me for a moment if you will. I was delighted to see the new President unload on the irresponsible Wall Street Execs who took more than 180 million in bonuses last year while most Americans were helplessly watching their life savings disappear.

A Good First Impression

Steve Savard talks with Rams GM Billy Devaney

Let's be honest here: I wouldn't say I came away UNIMPRESSED with Steve Spagnuolo after sitting down with him. I'd start this blog on some other note. M...

Haslett is Out

5:05 PM Thu, Jan 15, 2009 |

Jim Haslett told me about 5 pm today that he has been informed by G.M. Billy Devaney that he will not be the head coach in 2009. Haslett says Devaney told him that ownership wants to start fresh. So, that leaves four candidates in the field. Steve Spagnoulo was interviewing today in L.A.

Haslett is very disappointed by the news. He poured a lot into the job and had detailed plans for the Rams in 2009 and beyond. I've been on the record...

Back From Vacation - 1/4/09

6:58 PM Sun, Jan 04, 2009 |

Just back in the office and have several thoughts on what's going on in the local sports scene:

--I HATE to see Aaron Miles leave. The Cardinals will miss his versatility and production. Clearly, Adam Kennedy's $4 million salary dictated his departure and that's a shame.

---The more I see the Ravens play defense, the more it makes sense for the Rams to interview coordinator Rex Ryan. He consistently has one of--if not the sti...
