Holding the Line

4:22 PM Wed, Dec 17, 2008 |

I'm glad to hear that John Mozeilak is only willing to go so far to sign Brian Fuentes. The Cards offer of two years at 6 to 8 million per season is fair market value. Fuentes is holding out for three years and about ten million per season. That's too much for a guy who is not a "premiere" closer. And, Fuentes reportedly would rather play in Anaheim. Good for 'Mo for not panicking. I'm hoping if that money doesn't go to Fuentes, it will go to ...

A Smart Move

4:12 PM Wed, Dec 17, 2008 |

The Rams' decision to conduct an open job search before naming a head coach makes sense. I'm on the record saying that I'd like to see Jim Haslett get the job because I think he can get it done. But, why not seek out as many interested and qualified parties as possible. If the Rams do select Haslett, then nobody can say they just took the easy way out at season's end. And if another candidate blows away Billy Devaney and Chip Rosenbloom then y...

An Absolute Joke

3:40 PM Tue, Dec 16, 2008 |

I'm not a guy that routinely bashes the Pro Bowl voting process. The fact is ever year deserving players aren't voted in but more often than not the guys who are voted in are deserving. That is not the case with the NFC punting situation. The Rams' Donnie Jones is snubbed despite leading the NFL in gross average and being third in net average. He has three of the top five punting days in the league this season.

Jones' average of 50.2 ...

Learning How To Win

4:19 PM Sun, Dec 14, 2008 |

It used to be that the Rams knew how to win, how to bury teams that were on the ropes. This team has no clue how to do that. Torry Holt said it best, "we need to learn how to win all over again."

On a day when the Rams did a lot right they still come up short. Offensively, the Rams commit the same old sins: turnovers and stupid penalties. The Rams could have easily scored seven or 10 more points in the first half but they continue to t...

A Stunning Decline

8:15 PM Wed, Dec 03, 2008 |

It's startling to see how far the Rams offense has fallen since 2006. That season, the offense finished 8th in total offense at 360 yards per game. This season, they rank 28th in total offense, gaining just 266 yards.

The passing game was fourth best in 2006 at 248 yards per contest. This season, the Rams' passing attack is 28th best at 174 yards a game. And the rushing offense has fallen from 17th two seasons ago to 27th this year. T...

Moving Forward

3:42 PM Mon, Dec 01, 2008 |

I have a ton of thoughts regarding the Rams. I'm going to try to hit one or two a day to remain focused and not ramble.

A couple of topics today: For starters, I like the approach that Jim Haslett is taking down the stretch. That is, he's playing as many young guys as he can in an effort to find out who can and can't play at an NFL level. Never in the history of the St. Louis Rams have so many rookies or second year guys played this m...
