December 2007 ArchivesWe get word today that Congress will invite George Mitchell and others to Washington next month for hearings on performance enhancing drugs. Fine and dandy but can we skip the dog and pony show and keep Bud Selig away from the festivities? His testimony in March of 2005 was and still is laughable. He vehemently denied baseball had a drug problem. He knew better. Everyone in baseball knew better. He's a figurehead commissioner incapable of ind... John Hadley of the Big 550 calls me today from Nashville to let me hear Tony Larussa's latest remarks about Scott Rolen. The comment that jumps out is this--Larussa saying he no longer cares what Rolen thinks about him. He says Rolen is paid to play and if he plays hard, he'll play. If he doesn't, he'll sit and if he doesn't like it he can quit. I have no idea who's right and who's wrong. Or if there is a right or wrong in this case. ... By the time the fourth quarter rolled around last night, it became obvious to me that Mizzou just isn't good enough to beat Oklahoma. Credit Bob Stoops for assembling a bigger, stronger and faster team. You lose twice in the same season and you have to admit you're not good enough. But, that in no way diminishes what Mizzou did this season. The Tigers took a very big step forward. And Gary Pinkel will continue to get blue chip recruits. The fu... |
