October 2007 ArchivesI amazed that the same national analysts who vigorously ripped Mike Martz for one on-sides kick against the Jets in 2001 are giving Bill Belichick a pass. What Martz did in that game at the Meadowlands pales in comparison to what Belichick is doing to the league. It's obvious that Mister Bill has adopted a scorched earth policy after being reprimanded by the league for the "spygate" cheating. His insistence on running up the score on opponents... So Scott Linehan unloaded on his team after today's practice. And the sky is blue. What took so long? Not that Linehan is without fault in 2007 but it used to be that a football team could expect a tail chewing once a week or more. From the time I started playing at age 7, I as told that you had to worry when they stopped yelling. That's when they stopped caring. If Linehan thinks his team (or one player in particular) had it coming, g... It's great that the Cardinals are aggressively re-signing some of their free agents but at what price? Did they need to pay 13 million over two years to keep Joel Pineiro who four months ago was a reclamation project? I think Pineiro did enough to earn a new deal but that's steep. No doubt that Russ Springer was very solid in a relief role but the team has nine million committed to Springer and Pineiro for 2007. (Pineiro's deal calls f... I liken the Rams offense to a boxer trying to fight with one hand tied behind his back. Or a middleweight trying to slug it out with a heavyweight. Injuries have left the Rams almost helpless against top level defenses like the one they faced today. The Rams were so thin at receiver that after Drew Bennett left Scott Linehan was forced to use St. Louis native Brandon Williams as the third receiver. He's been with the Rams one week and barely k... Just back from the Scottrade Center. It's a raucous crowd on opening night. The atmosphere takes me back to the days of the Arena. I miss that old nasty dirty place. Congrats to the Blues ownership for working hard to bring the fans back. Now, let's see if they can maintain the interest. It's perfect timing for the organization (organ--eye--zay--shun) with the Cardinals done and the Rams winless. One suggestion for the Blues: kill the... I was told that Tony Larussa would make his decision by Sunday or Monday. It's Tuesday and still no decision. Why wouldn't Larussa take his time to see what happens with the Yankees or elsewhere. I'm told the skipper was not happy about the decision to dump Walt Jocketty. But, I'd still like to see Larussa finish his career here. If that doesn't happen, Bill Dewitt would be a fool not to have serious discussions with Joe Torre if he ge... The Cardinals and Walt Jocketty are doing the smart thing. If a relationship is damaged beyond repair, move on. That's what the Rams and Mike Martz didn't do. That marriage was irreparably damaged after the 2004 season. Martz wanted Charley Armey and Jay Zygmunt fired but John Shaw had no intention of making those moves. Both parties would have been better served by ending the relationship before the 2005 season. The tensions poisoned the env... Kurt Warner joined Jim Hanifan and me on Rams Rush Hour tonight and said he hopes to split time with Matt Leinart Sunday. Warner sounds as excited as I've heard him in a long time. He's made a major contribution because he's finally getting some quality protection. His numbers---71% completion rate, three touchdowns and no interceptions and a q-b rating of 125.1. These are not the same old sorry Cardinals. They've taken on a new person... |
