NOW I'VE HEARD IT ALL...

9:06 AM Tue, Mar 10, 2009 |

Attention conspiracy theorists: Go investigate a grassy knoll or something. Today I approved the following comment, basically because I can't believe someone would think this:

I would like someone to explain to me why KMOV originally said they would be back to full power by March 1 and then when the date was switched for the DTV conversion from Feb. 17 to June 12. KMOV switched when it would be back to full power to July 1 it makes no sense to me why your date for full power should change if it was scheduled for March 1 and planned for then it should still be accomplished by then. If it is delayed by this much then KMOV should be firing it's engineers as they obviously are incompetent to complete anything in a timely manner. I think the real reason is KMOV has some kind of deal with Charter or Dish or maybe both to delay full power trying to get more people to pay for television and if they are without your station for a week or so they'll give in and buy from cable or dish or someone like that.

SERIOUSLY? Come on - give me a break. I've posted this several times, but here we go again since some folks are still confused. KMOV reduced power in January in order to complete tower work for the original DTV conversion on Feb. 17th. If you want the minutiae, we had to rebuild our digital transmitter to handle a new frequency, and once the analog broadcast goes away we need to replace the antenna on the very top of our 1200 foot tower. We had crews scheduled to complete that work, and have full power restored by March 1st. When Congress delayed the digital transition until June 12th, we obviously couldn't complete that work. This really has nothing to do with our engineers, or Charter or DirecTV. In the meantime, we're trying to help folks through the transition as best we can. Believe me when I say we share your frustration.

HELP FOR MANCHESTER, MO RESIDENTS:

Digital Television Transition Support

Recently the United States Congress passed legislation, the DTV
Delay Act (S. 352) to delay the Digital Television Transition from
February 17, 2009 to June 12, 2009. Additionally, the DTV Delay
Act extends the Converter Box Coupon Program until July 31, 2009.

If you have questions or require assistance installing your converter
box, the Citizen Corps Council of Manchester, Missouri and the
Manchester Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will
be offering its services. Our volunteers are available to lend you a
hand at installing the converter box and transitioning your television
to receive the digital signal.

I feel sorry for CBS to have a messed up station like you all. By the time you all get around to getting a signal out to us in the boonies of Carlyle we will have found alot of other programs to watch on the 8 channels that had their act togethet and got a good signal out here all along. Stop blaming your stations ineptness on the goverment(although I agree they are messed up). You all have just let the ball drop you can't tell me that there was no other way to get this job done in a more timely manner. Are you a politician because you talk like one.

Sorry for your trouble but why should we suffer.

Kathy,

That's above my pay grade. Is that political enough for you? :) I can't speak for you, but the engineering aspect of this is far beyond my comprehension. This is how it boils down: KMOV is the only station in the St. Louis market that was forced by the FCC to switch digital frequencies. That required not only a re-build of our digital transmitter, but also requires a brand new antenna. The problem is, the antenna that we currently use to broadcast our analog signal is the one that has to be replaced. We can't do that until we are no longer broadcasting an analog signal on June 12th. It's a simple as that. There's no ineptness involved.

This is more a question than a comment, I have the converter box hooked up. Fine no problem, however, the feedback ......it's driving me crazy. What can be done if anything to stop that annoying noise? I know it's been mentioned before, maybe I missed the answer. Let me know I'll be waiting as usual for that right response.

Thanks,

Why worry about how long it takes for KMOV to get it together when all you have to do is get a dish network or something.

I really loved to watch channel 4 they have the best shows, I am unable to have cable or dish network and am still on plane old tv. I have not been able to watch all the good shows for some weeks now because channel 4 has a messed up signal. It SUCKS, Please tell me when they are going full signal so the little people can start watching tv again.

I should be receving your DTV signal on 4.1, right? I am in Eureka and can received all the other STL channels with no problem but 4.1 reception if very spotty. Is this because you are still transitioning your digital signal. Thanks, Ed

Question: All my TVs are receiving your DTV signal via antenna just fine in Ballwin. However the TV Tuner on my PC can no longer find KMOV since going digital. The PC receives settings via Microsoft download for this zip code. Do they need to get your new assigned frequency to be able to identify KMOV in that downoload?

Lynn,
We feel your pain. Our power will return to normal after June 12th, when the full digital transition takes place.

Thanks,
Marc

Ed,

If you can get all the other channels, eventually you'll get ours. Right now we're at half power due to some work that needs to be completed on the tower. That can't happen until the analog signal goes away all together in June.

Tom,

It's my understanding the Microsoft has been made aware of this. You may want to contact them as well.

Marc, I feel for you. Most people it seems can't read, they think all the problems they are having is KMOV's fault. I understand their frustration, but also realize you can't do this without doing that first. Hang in there, buddy, we'll all muddle through. GF
