A number of people are asking why KMOV and all the local stations didn't just go ahead and turn off our analog signals on Feb. 17th. Congress agreed we could, and apparently about 500 stations across the country went ahead as scheduled, including KDNL here in St. Louis. KMOV and other stations agreed to maintain their analog signals because Nielson estimates there are thousands of people who would lose their only connection news and entertainment. We can argue until the cows come home as to why these folks aren't ready after we've reminded them ad nauseam, but the fact remains that many people would be cut off. Case in point - a recent tornado in Oklahoma, where thousands might have had no warning if analog TV had not still been available. READ MORE HERE
ASHES TO ASHES...
I've got a great recycling idea for you - BEST BUY. Most local recyclers charge to take your old TV off your hands, because basically they don't make any money on it. Best Buy also charges $10 (and will only take 27" TV's or smaller), but in return they'll give you a $10 BB gift card. I think that's a great idea, and it's good for the environment.
See you,
Marc
I have tried three times to hook up the DTV converter box to my TV. On the second try I did get 3 HDTV channels in with my antennae which has rabbit ears and a UFH receiver, but not KMOV or PBS. I then decided that I needed to purchase a new DTV antennae which I did. I hooked everything up last Sunday, and got no signal whatsoever. Because of this I removed the convertor box and new antennae and reattached the rabbit ears. It now seems I will have to call a service person out to do this and maybe buy an outside antennae. I do not appreciate all the added expense of this. Do I get to deduct it from my taxes?
By the way I did not get to watch the OSCARS!!! thanks to ABC's pigheaded decision to convert on the 17th. Since there was a change of date, there was no hurry and they could have easily waited until after the OSCARs presentation. Insensitive!!!!
I would like someone to explain to me why KMOV originally said they would be back to full power by March 1 and then when the date was switched for the DTV conversion from Feb. 17 to June 12. KMOV switched when it would be back to full power to July 1 it makes no sense to me why your date for full power should change if it was scheduled for March 1 and planned for then it should still be accomplished by then. If it is delayed by this much then KMOV should be firing it's engineers as they obviously are incompetent to complete anything in a timely manner. I think the real reason is KMOV has some kind of deal with Charter or Dish or maybe both to delay full power trying to get more people to pay for television and if they are without your station for a week or so they'll give in and buy from cable or dish or someone like that. I get a great signal from channels 2,5, 11 and 30 with signal quality near 100% and signal strength around 80%, a so so signal from channels 46,24 and 9 at around 80% signal quality and 40% signal strength, which causes occasional signal loss for a few seconds but almost always returns and I can live with that, which is where channel 4 used to be also until you switched frequencies since then when scanning it will only get a 5% signal strength for your new frequency and this convertor box will only try to lock onto a signal strength of at least 10%. I'm really disappointed so far with what your station is doing to restore full signal power in this region so basically now I end up switching my antenna back and forth from analog to digital hook -up so I can watch programming on your station. I'm happy you have delayed going to all digital as at least I get to still watch some of my favorite programs for now but will have to get used to not having any CBS shows to watch on television in the future unless you fix your strength issue in this area. It would be nice to know whether you will ever have enough power again where I will be able to get your signal because if not I'll have to resign myself to watching my favorite cbs programs online and have to get used to turning somewhere else for local St. Louis news. I've been watching Larry for years I'll miss him and Kent but television is not something I will pay money to watch so if your signal remains weak I'll get by without your station in the future. g8pbv2
hey what is up with the HD? i got more channels when i used just rabbit ears and analog, now i don't get any! i think that there is a conspiracy going on between the gov't, tv stations, tv sellers, converter box sellers and makers, and antenna sellers and makers, 1st i was told i needed to get a converter box, 2nd i was told i need an antenna (rabbit ears) with both uhf and vhf frequencies, 3rd i was told to get a roof antennna, last now i have been told there is a new antenna out there that is the best for hd reception. YOu know if the gov't wanted us pay for tv like some places in europe why didn't they just do that? i would have gladly paid a tv tax rather than go through all this hassle. AND there isn't even anyone I can call in this area besides the local tv stations! What are they going to do about it? They are talking about people not having hd and converter boxes and yet there is no one to help us, heck just leave it at analog forever some of us don't mind, and i am sure as heck not going to pay for cable or satellite! i live in north county st louis in an area where i should recieve plenty of channels but all i get is occasionally 2 and 30 and then the sound doesn't work and the picture is constantly jumping. We end up looking up our news online or using the radio, it's like our family has gone back in time if it wasn't for the internet. This is truly ridiculous, and i would suggest that one of the local stations do an expose on how many people in st louis county have converter boxes they have purchased with the gov'ts coupon (ha! waste of gov't funds)and went out and bought the requisite equipment to work with the box and still get little to no reception or worse reception than analog! we cannot all afford the brand new tv's which i am told have little to no problems recieving signal. so what are we to do for news and entertainment?
