News Release:
St. Louis, MO: Bill D. Routh, a longtime used car wholesaler, was sentenced to six months of home confinement and two years probation for filing a false federal income tax return for 2003, Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap announced today.
According to papers filed with the court at the time of the plea, Routh has operated B&R Motors in Peerless Park since 2001. He is a wholesaler of used cars and purchases trade-in vehicles from new car dealerships for purposes of re-selling the vehicles to used car dealers. Routh admitted that he reported only $30,194 in profit from his business in 2003 when he should have reported $236,000. The court papers show that he understated his taxes in the amounts of $47,706 for 2002 and $75,694 for 2003.
Routh, 68, Mehlville, MO, pleaded guilty in April to filing a false federal income tax return for 2003, and appeared today for sentencing before United States District Judge Charles A. Shaw. Prior to sentencing Routh paid $123,000 towards his tax delinquencies. He was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
Reap commended the work on the case by Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation; and Assistant United States Attorney James E. Crowe, who handled the case for the U. S. Attorneys Office.
