9-11 REMEMBERED

9-11 REMEMBERED

September 11, 2001. I'm sure you remember that date, but have the images faded ... even your shock, fear and anger ... eased?

Often, viewers tell me that we should be repeating the video of the planes crashing into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and what was left in field in Pennsylvania. They believe that it is a mistake not to broadcast those scenes.

It is a fact that tv networks and local stations have severely reduced use of video from that tragic day. When video is used ... the images are "sanitized" ... not showing the real horror.

That reality is part of a Darryl Worley's song "Have You Forgotten". The words are:

"You took all the footage off my T.V.Said it's too disturbin for you and me. It'll just breed anger is what the experts say. If it was up to me I'd show it everyday."

As we pass another anniversary of 9-11, do you think we should replay those scenes? If so .. just on the anniversary date ... or more often?

I agree the images are painful ... but I think we need to be reminded ... lest we forget.

I'm waiting to read your answer; also, I'm including all the lyrics to Worley's song and Alan Jackson's song: "Where Were You (When the world stopped turning)".
Please read them.

HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN
Darryl Worley
I hear people sayin'.
We Don't need this war.
I say there's some things worth fightin' for.
What about our freedom, and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backin' down.
They say we don't realize the mess we're gettin' in
Before you start preachin' let me ask you this my friend.

Chorus
Have you forgotten, how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten, when those towers fell
We had neighbors still inside goin through a livin hell
And you say we shouldn't worry bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

You took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbin for you and me
It'll just breed anger is what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it everyday
Some say this country just out lookin' for a fight
Well after 9/11 man I'd have to say right.

Chorus
Have you forgotten, how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell
We had neighbors still inside goin' through a livin' hell
And we vow to get the ones behind Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
you can bet they remember just what they're fightin' for
Have you forgotten
All the people killed
Yes some went down like heroes
In that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgottenAbout our Pentagon
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?!

WHERE WERE YOU (When the world stopped turning)
Alan Jackson

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry
Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below
Did you burst out in pride
For the red white and blue
The heroes who died just doing what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day

Teaching a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak with some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political manI watch CNN
but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love
The greatest is love
The greatest is love
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day

I think us as Americans have fallen back into our normal way of life. We think that again we are above any harm such as what had happened on 9/11/01. Unfortunatly the security we think we have will never be 100% and perhaps maybe every once in awhile we need a reminder about that horrific day (No matter how bad the images are) to be shown to us.

We need to be reminded that we lost alot that day. Not only did we lose Husbands, Wives, Mothers, Fathers, Sons and Daughters but we also lost the faith we had in our security in this country. Maybe reminders would make it that we have consider that we still are not safe.

We also need to have these reminders to show us why in the first place our democracy that we hold so dear has sent troops over to the middle-east to take care of Terrorism. Maybe the reminders every so often will justify at least some of why our men and women of the armed forces are giving their lives every day so we over here do not have to endure another 9/11.

Never forget 9/11!

Yes I agree Darryl Worley. I think it we should keep it fresh in our minds. Remember that we were attacked. These people are our enemies.

raymond smoot said:

I feel that it should be shown more than it has been.
It seems like people are forgetting what happened.

Lanny McFarland said:

I agree that the media needs to keep showing these scenes and any new ones that come along from ameteur video. It definely needs to be shown on the anniversary. But I believe on occasions like Memorial Day and Fourth of July some of this needs to be part of the celebration. Our country provoked no attack on 9/11. I believe it should some video should be shown any time there is a major capture or kill of Al Qaida terrorists anywhere in the world. Thanks for showing the video today.

i understand where people are coming from with want the vidoes of 9/11 showed but even if they are not showed you can never forget that day. i was 12 years old and in the 5th grade. and there are alot of things i have forgotten about that year but that is one thing that will stick with me forever. i believe alot of that though is because my dad is a firefighter and i have family in the army. i would like to thank all the mean and women that risk thier lives everyday for people they don't even know.
thank you !!

Dude said:

Show it once a week at supper time, so the whole family can see the hate directed at America for what we believe.

Bob Anders said:

Interesting. I was going to quote the same songs you quoted. I agree that video of that day should be seen everyday as a reminder of what is required to keep our Country free. We should never let the images of that day fade from our memories unless we wish to repeat these events in the future.

Jennifer Whitlock said:

I think we all remember,we will never forget but we get caught up in our everyday lives. A weekly reminder or a monthly reminder might jolt us into being grateful to our Armed Forces for doing what they are doing. We have had eight years of trying to undo the horrible wrong that was done to us and the lies and deceit that got us there. Yes we do need to be reminded.

We as a whole, forgot too quickly. And we are afraid to offend the very group that did this to us.While a great majority of people blame what happened on a former President we had, they(terroists) are laughing at us, thinking we are ignorant fools. They Hate our Country, our Flag(old Betsy),Christianity, anything our Country stands for, and our Freedom ! Lets not forget the people who died that day were Americans, and Heroes at that !

Anne said:

I do think videos such as these should be shown. Real lives, over 2,000 of them, were lost that day. These were mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters. Each person meant something to someone else. We need to see these videos to remind us that mass murder in this country, especially terrorism mass murder, will not be tolerated. Never forget 9/11.

MrsD said:

Shown too often, people become desensitized. Shown too rarely or not at all, people forget the true horror. These scenes should never be sanitized and should be shown periodically. We must never forget.

natasha said:

i think that we need to be remembering it, yes every year we all unite together on this horrifing day that will be in all our lives for the rest of our lives, but do we really remember what really took place on that day, when i see anything about it i watch it, makes me have tears in my eyes everytime, not just cause its sad but because it makes me so mad, i was only 13 at the time it happened and even then i was so mad, i would like to be kept up with what is going on with some of the famlies how are they doing? or how is ground zero coming along? and also since i was so young i like to see what happened so i wont ever forget, this is our home and i think its a good idea to remind some people why those men and woman are over there fighting.

I think you should show that video. It actaully should be shown with remarks about the hate that these people have and they do not care about other peoples feelings, even there own. How sad they really are.

Rita Lautenschlager said:

Even though we will never forget the loss of that day the images will someday slowly fade and part of me thinks we should let them fade, let us forget the tragic scenes that happened that day but I also feel that it is a tribute to those whose lives will forever be changed by it happening.

Alice Kelly said:

I believe that we should be given the chance to see those videos again. If a person does not want to watch, they can simply turn the television off.
We cannot forget what happened that day. We cannot let it fade into a distant memory. We have to keep it fresh in our minds and our hearts, not out of hatred but as a reminder that it can and has happened on our home soil.

Suzanne Whitehead said:

Absolutely! We need to show it. For all the people that died that day and to remind Americans that the world did change on that horrible morning. As bad as things are now with the economy -- don't you all remember how bad it was after 9/11? I was a TWA employee and our industry fell apart. (It wasn't all that stable before). But 9/11 wrecked 4 airplanes and the security people felt when they flew. Those terrorists killed thousands and sparked a strong downturn in our economy with their attack. If we don't show it and only gloss over it --we are worse off than pre-9/11!

Judith Chadwell said:

The American people need to see the video..to remember what we all lost on that day..to remember why so many of our men and women are in Afghanistan fghting for our country. May God keep them safe.

Aaron said:

I totally agree with Darrel Worley's quote, that we should show this more often. Remebering our fallen heros is something all americans should honor. I am a firefighter in the St.Charles County Area and believe on doing all I can not just on 9/11 but everyday to support our fallen heros. The video may be too hurtful to show everyday, but maybe every month, just to keep the attack fresh in our minds.

Therese Abbenhaus said:

I think we should view the video from beginning to end - the planes, survivors running, the buildings imploding, the plane plowing into the Pentagon and listen to the phone calls from the
hostages and those in the towers who knew they were going to die. We will never forget - we MUST never forget - we need to remember that there are people "out there" who hate the USA SOOOO much that they are willing to die, and take as many of us with them when they go.
We must never forget that EVIL is present everywhere!! God Bless the USA, and may HE help us survive!!

Karen Kane said:

Absolutely! It's remarkable how quickly we forget, yet I know I will never forget how I felt that day...transfixed in front of the tv, tears streaming down my face, terrified of what tomorrow would bring, praying for the victims, praying for our nation, flying the flag, united as a nation against an unknown enemy...yet now I feel it has become politicized. Many media outlets are hesitant to remind us of that day. I think we should be reminded often so we never let down our guard again, staying vigilant about protecting everything Americans hold dear in an uncertain world.

Cassi said:

I agree that the video needs to be shown much more than it is. I hear people saying that most Americans just went on with their everyday lives and forgot what has happened. I am not sure that everyone has forgotten what happened, however, I do feel that many people take for granted what happened, (that day, and every day thereafter).

I was a firefighter for several years, however, on September 11, 2001, I worked for law enforcement and remember very well what was happening. Although I was not right there, it is amazing the precautions we had to take for the safety of our area alone. With many friends having served multiple duties in Iraq, a son in the process of joining the Army as we speak, I want Americans to be reminded that this can happen on OUR land. It isn't just something that happens somewhere else. I want Americans to realize that our friends and family are over there fighting for our right to 'go on with our everyday lives'.

I also agree that we need to know the outcome of what happens with the terrorists that we have captured. I know that people are usually eager to blame everyone else for what is wrong in their lives. Show the video and look at it as what is right in our lives. Look at all the people that ran into burning buildings to save the victims instead of just running the other way. Look at people holding each other in pain, it didn't matter what color their skin was. Americans need to stop fighting amongst themselves and join forces to fight the real enemies out there, because they really do exist.

As for your choice of songs.. EXCELLENT!!!!!
I hope everyone takes the time to really listen to them.

I think we need to always be reminded of what happened that day. Those that lost their family members/friends will daily be reminded of this great loss. I think as time passes it doesn't seem as real as when you see these videos and pics and relive that horrible feeling of that day. Thank you to all of our soldiers who fight for our freedom, the firefighters and police who also risk their lives to protect and save others. To the families who lost loved ones, we will never forget your loss and you will always be in peoples prayers. Let's always keep those who lost their lives that day close to our hearts, THEY ARE TRUE HERO'S.

I don't think we need to replay the 9-11 tragedy over and over. I don't think we will ever forget this. I think about those who lost their loved ones watching this over and over re-living the tragic event.

I agree,I was only a freshman in high school, but I remember everything that happened that day, But we don't think about it enough, so to help us remember what we were feeling that day, I do think it should be shown at least once a week.So it will stay fresh.NO MATTER HOW GRAPHIC!!!!!!!!

I am reminded of another incident that happened on that day. we were prepared to celabrate my wifes birthday. we had spent the day like everyone else listing to the news and wondering what in the world went wrong.
About three o'clock that after moon I got a call that a friends one yeat old daughter had been taken to the E.R and had to be revived several times. She was flown in to St. Louis by a med Chopper that had to get special permisson from the goverment because everything and everyone had been grouded. The doctors were not sure that she would come out of this, but thanks to God and a lot of prayers and good medicial help she left the hospital about a week later and has not had a incedent since. So when we see the videos of 9-11 ( which i feel that we should see more often ) I Thank God for two things. The first being that we live in a country that can and does protect us and i thwnk him that my small friend is alive and well. I hope this does'nt bore you but I love to brag on my God and what He does.

The answer is yes, we should most deffinatly see more of the videos and images of that horrific day, no matter how bad they are. As a 17 year old highschool student i don't remeber much of that day becasue i was only in fourth grade and didn't fully understand what had happened just, that alot of people that didn't deserve to die did. Now that i understand the tragedy of that day and everything that the men and women in our military do for us i think it is extremly important to remember what they are fighting for. I belive that these images should be shown so that the childern of the younger generations fully understand why we are honoring those men and women who have fallen in order to let the people of America live without fear when they sleep at night, and can live their days the way they want. Not showing these images would be a disgrace to all of the military personal who have fought in the war against terrorism. If people complain that the images are to graffic or anything to that effect, they should watch cabel tv for a few hours and realize that there are way more graphic things out there than those videos. i belive that we (the people of America) should spend more time honoring our military and not just on the holidays, i belive that schools and media should spen a little more time on explaining this day and why we honor it.

Thank you to all of the men and women who are giving up time away from loved ones and those who gave up there lives so that I may live free and be protected form harm. THANK YOU!

There are so many dates in our history that should never be forgoten. Pearl Habor is Second only to 9/11. I have not forgoten nor will I, but for all the War Protesters out there, they should be reminded every day. As long as there is terrorism in the world we are not safe in our own back yard. Let alone traveling any where in the world.

Tedd Rehme said:

I think it all depends. If every channel keeps showing on every news cast I can see it becoming a bit disturbing. Especially to families of those lost on 9/11. So in moderation I feel it should be shown.

Mark Harder said:

Larry, I think the networks should show all the footage of 9/11 every 9/11 all day. This is one of the worst days in U.S. history. People need to remember this day and what went on. Some people want all memory of this day to go away. It is not politically correct and offensive... Tell that to the people who lost friends and relatives. They live with 9/11 every day of their life. We can at least relive it once a year. "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing"... Edmond Burke
WE are supporting evil by not remembering. KMOV needs to stand up and have a news special tommorow all day if necessary.

We must continue to see the images without sanitizing, just as we saw them on September 11, 2001. We do not see sanitized images of the USS Arizona exloding during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Are we considered too weak to see the images from 9/11? We are not. We are AMERICANS and we do not fear.

I've been to what we now call "Ground Zero". I was in New York in 2004 and walked from Grand Central Station to the site of the World Trade Center where so many were slaughtered. By then it was mostly cleaned up and looked like a construction site except for the memory of what was once there. I stood at the fence for a long time in silence with many others and felt the quiet tears of rage run down my face.

At 45, I'm too old to re-enlist or I would have long ago but I now know the anger my parents felt on December 7, 1941. My father's best friend was on the Arizona and is now forever entombed there. He never forgave the Japanese for killing his friend. I didn't know anyone personally who died on September 11 but I was attacked as were us all. I will not forgive.

We did not choose this fight but it is upon us. The enemy does not relent in their hatred of us nor their desire and intent to kill us. Choosing not to look at it doesn't make that very simple reality disappear. This can only be resolve by vanquishing this enemy.

I will not feel any remorse when I learn the last al Quaida died begging for mercy at the point of an American bayonet. So be it.

It is necessary this horror be shown at least on each anniversary date. We should also remind viewers of the horrors of World War I and 2, Korea, Vietnam and Irag and Afghanistan and too, the atrocities dealt to our soldiers. To many in the present generation these previous wars are just something to read in a book. They need to constantly SEE IT.

Yes, please continue to show the videos of September 11,2001. I pray everynignt for the safty of our country. God Bless America!

Praise the day. Remember. Hope and Dream. Shed the tears. Smile the smile. This day will be forever remembered. Where were you when the world stopped turning?

We will never forget. We will never falter. We will not let them win. We will not give in. We are Americans. We are strong and resilient.

First thought that still comes to my mind on this day as it did 8 years ago... I so glad My Mother wasn't here to witness this. She passed away October 2000.

Bless us all.

Yes, the videos of 9/11/2001 should be shown different times during the year and especially on the anniversary. What happened that day should never be forgotten as the attack on Pearl Harbor should never be forgotten, but now Dec. 7 is almost just another day in our lives. If it's mentioned on the TV news there is very little said about it and if it's in the newspaper it never makes the front page anymore. Our country was attacked both of those times and our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren should learn about those days and know what happened to so many of our people. I barely remember the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but I remember my parents talking about it a lot.

Candace said:

I agree. We need to be reminded just as Daryl Worley's song says. The videos are disturbing, but isn't that the point...?

StorminNorman said:

I would not be able to see those images everyday because the anger would build inside me to the point of an internal explosion. I remember 09/11/09 and that feeling of shock and dismay. I thought to myself, what kind of idiot could do this to us, on our own soil. As things developed, I grew very angry which later turned to fill my glass of loyalty, pride and patriotism for our country, the first responders and the troops and people that defend our country everyday. Don't ever forget 09/11 and what can happen when we become complacent. Be on your toes everyday and watch for signs of terrorism and respond accordingly. Wave the Flag and pay homage to our fallen veterans (all wars, not just Iraq & Afghanistan). RIP to all those who have fallen, prayers and thoughts revolve around our country everyday. Live long America, Keep the Pride and Keep the Faith.
