In fact, by the time many of you read this, summer will have already arrived. The summer solstice occurs today (June 21, 2007) at precisely 1:06 PM local time. First of all, what is a solstice, and secondly, how could we possibly know that it occurs at such a specific time? The word solstice has Latin o... What an age in which we live! Not only do we have a man-made marvel of scientific ingenuity in orbit right now around our home planet, but we also have the ability to accurately predict when that home-spun "satellite" will be visible in our local sky!
