March 2008 ArchivesWith rain expected on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, we need to talk about flooding risks again. A cold front passing through tonight will stall in the area by tomorrow morning. It will remain in the vicinity until Friday when it will finally slide southeast. In the meantime, plenty of moisture will overrun the front and a series of disturbances will move along it. This will lead to several rounds of showers and storms. At this ... Spring officially began at 12:48 this (Thursday) morning, and the good news is that the first few days of the new season look fairly tranquil. That good news has been vastly overshadowed by the moderate to major river flooding that is occuring across much ot the southern half of our viewing area. Let's consider those areas where moderate to major flooding is either occurring now or will be within 24 hours. Moderate Flo... I wanted to include a link to the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service. You can go here to get the latest river stages and river level forecasts. As of this writing, several locations are looking at a forecast for moderate to major flooding. On the Meramec River, moderate flooding is forecast at Steelville,... We've been talking about the flood watch but I wanted to share a few more details with you about what you can expect. First, a few key terms. A Flood Watch refers generally to bodies of water. The water tends to rise and fall a bit slower than that of a Flash Flood. Those with interests along area rivers need to stay informed on the situation when a Flood Watch is in effect. Flash flooding on the other hand occurs as a result of ... This Winter on average across the US and the globe is the coolest since 2001. While it was the coolest in recent years, it was still above the normal. You can find out more from this article, click here. So this got me thinking...let's look at our numbers here in St. Louis for this Winter. By the way, to make keeping climate records easier, ... Tornado sirens will sound across Missouri today as part of the National Weather Service's 2008 Severe Weather Awareness Week. Here is your chance to put your severe weather action plan into practice. A statewide tornado drill is scheduled for this afternoon at 1:30 PM. Sirens all around the Show Me State will blare, weather radios will be triggered, and equipment in the 4Warn Storm Center will light up as a test tornado warning is is... They say that a house divided cannot stand, but in the Chambers household, we've managed to prove that theory wrong a time or two. My wife and I look at the longer daylight hours of spring and summer in very different ways. We both work odd, and often long, hours. But, those hours don't typically match. My alarm goes off at 1:00 AM each weekday morning. As a result, if I'm behaving myself, I'm heading to bed sometime between... After Tuesday's 10" snow dump at Lambert International Airport, I was hoping for at least a bit of a break from the active winter weather pattern... But it just wasn't meant to be. By the time you woke up this morning (Thursday morning), a winter storm watch had already been posted for Reynolds and Iron counties in Missouri. Those are the two southern-most counties in the News4 viewing area, and home to the towns of Centervill... Tuesday March 4th was the biggest snow of the year in St. Louis with 10" officically at Lambert airport (the official measuring station for the St. Louis area). It puts our 2007-2008 winter snowfall total at 30.1" so far (could be a bit more before it's all over too). But this season's snowfall has not been rivaled in nearly 15 years since the Winter of 1992-1993 which had 30.3". So, as many people have guessed this is a snowy Winter compar... |
