May 2007 ArchivesAfter spending 14 years forecasting in South Florida I can't help but keep tabs on the Atlantic Hurricane Season (June - November). I was in South Florida when Hurricane Andrew struck in August of 1992. I chased landfalling hurricanes from Texas to the Carolinas. But you don't have to be a Meteorologist to realize that we are seeing more and stronger landfalling hurricanes in the U.S. Which brings us to the release of the government's... The beautiful weekend weather brought a lot of bi-state residents outside to enjoy the comfortble conditions. If you were out and about after sunset, you might have notcied something interesting, and a bit unusual, in the sky. When the two brightest objects in the night sky move close to one another, it's tough to miss. A few of our viewers not only noticed, but took the time to snap a few pictures and send them our way. This... Lots of people are talking how they love this cool refreshing air and are openning the windows while letting the A/C take a break. But have the blankets handy if your windows are open tonight, it's going to be chilly with lows in the mid to low 40s. Kent and I are forecasting a low for St. Louis of 45, but outlying areas could very well be near 40. The record low at Lambert Airport is 39, which I think will remain a record as we get within 5... ***UPDATED WEDNESDAY, MAY 9, 2007*** While we were enjoying a pleasant weekend here, heavy rain, strong thunderstorms, and even deadly tornadoes were marching across parts of the Midwest -- Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska were hardest hit. Take a look at these severe weather reports... just from Saturday alone!
Steve here in the weather center, and it was an interesting night as funnel clouds and some tornadoes starting popping up along a line of showers just East of St. Louis.
Now these were weak tornadoes and unexpected because these tornadoes produced such a weak and low level rotation, it was difficult to detect o... Static weather patterns can be good or bad. This time of year if we can get a strong ridge of high pressure over us we normally enjoy days of sunny, warm weather. Obviously that is not what is happening right now. Here's the deal: A nearly stationary front is meandering to our south. This boundary marks the edge of two air masses. A cooler one to the north and a warm and humid one to the south.
