April 2007 ArchivesSteve here in the weather center and what a Monday! It was our first 90 degree day of the year. Monday was a nice taste of summer, however this hot weather will not last the rest of the week. The trend for the work week is cooler high temperatures in the low 80s and even low 70s. More clouds and several waves of rain will move through, giving us a chance of rain every day this work week. When will it rain? Matt here in the weather center, On a quiet weather day, I usually leave my house between 2:30 and 3:00 AM to head for the studio and prepare for News4This Morning. On my way out, before I hit the road, I'll often pause for a few seconds on my driveway looking skyward and "feeling" the early morning weather. This morning (Monday, April 23), during my typical driveway ritual, I heard a sound that I've not experienced for quite ... Was it really just a week ago that we had such miserable weather? On Saturday, April 14 the low temperature was 37 and the high was 42. The chill was compounded by brisk winds that gusted up to 29 mph. Over a half inch of a mix of rain, sleet and snow fell. What a difference this Saturday will be! With the return of the warmer temperatures comes a chance of thunderstorms. I think the storms will hold off until late Sunday so most of t... Hi weather fans! Matt here in the weather center... My typical work schedule allows me the luxury of "sleeping in" most weekends. Of course, waking up at 5:00 AM would be sleeping in for me! But, I digress. I'll be looking skyward in the pre-dawn hours this weekend -- not for the typical reasons that might come to mind. Each year in April, the Earth passes through the debris-filled tail of Comet Thatcher. As bits... Steve here in the weather center, and I'm sitting here wondering if there is yet another cool down on deck for us? Or can I count on warmer planting and grilling weather? Well, the next 2 weeks look a lot closer to normal, which is upper 60s to near 70. This week we will experience a cool down Wednesday and Thursday, but then warm back up for the weekend. This cool down should bring us temperatures near 60, much warmer than our last...
April snow is not unheard of in St. Louis, in fact the last time we had snow in April was April 8th, 2003 and it was a trace of snow. The latest we've ever seen snow was May 2nd 1929 with a 4" dumping! Right now the forecast just calls for snow to mix in with some rain Saturday morning,... Many records were broken this morning as an arctic airmass continues to persist over the bistate and much of the southeastern part of the country. Take a look at these record lows. St. Louis-------------------26(Old Record) / 23 (Today's Low) We have a chance to set new record low temperatures for the date of April 7th. We're expecting the temperatures to dip down to 18 to 23 degrees across the area. In St. Louis, the record is 26 set in 1939. As of Friday morning my forecast calls for the low to drop to 22 degrees, and thus set a new record. If the clouds clear out, it could get even colder. Here's the record low for some cities across the area:
Steve here in the weather center, and above is a graphic showing that the storm prediction center has our area outlined on Tuesday with a slight risk of severe storms. A cold front will move in from the Northwest, and this front brings much colder air with it for the middle and end of the week. As it plows ... |
