Centerpiece thievery!

This weekend I gave up on making my own centerpieces.

Yeah, I thought I was going to pull a Martha and knock out the world's cheapest, cutest table decorations, but finding flowers, vases, mirrors AND candles proved to be too much for my fragile mind. Plus, flowers are something I put on the "meh" list: Things I don't want to spend that much money on.

My florist is now doing the bulk of the centerpiece work, but she suggested I go to the dollar store and pick up the bubble vases. Why? She says people will walk away with them.

Quoi???

Me: "Yeah, people take them if there's a note on the table saying they are available."
Lisa: "Oh no, they'll take them anyway."
Me: " ... seriously?"

Our wedding has about 200 guests, and Lisa assured me that there would be 20 people with itchy fingers wanting those flowers. I have never wanted to leave a wedding reception with a vase full of water for the car ride home.

Have you ever just taken a centerpiece without getting word that they were giveaways? Has this happened to you, and then you were stuck with yet another florist bill?

Sub-question: Do I have kleptos on my guest list?

Come on Adrienne, everyone does that in Mexican weddings unless it's like a huge centerpiece they can't carry home. But even then, they'll try!

glue your vases to the table.

assign a house-party member to guard the doors. you'll have all of your vases at the end of the night....and, someone will have felt very important.

Some of your guests might want to take a momento to help them remember the day. Make it your gift to them. What are you going to do with 20 extra centerpieces when the day is over anyway?

Who wants to be stuck with that many cut, dying flowers, anyway? I'd be THRILLED if people took them off my hands. One more thing I won't have to haul away myself. If you like the vases that much, get a couple for your own house and something cheaper/disposable for the wedding.

You're getting married? Since when?

Har, har. :) Hey -- you hardly even have to hear about my wedding! It's poor Ron who has to listen to the trials and tribulations.

I'm thinking that you are already footing the florists' bill. And exactly, let the guests haul it away! Their happy with the memento and you are good to go with cleaned off tables!!

They took them from my wedding! I did not even get to keep one as a keepsake...sad but true. So go cheap!!

Folks started taking my centerpieces w/o asking b/c they were so gorgeous(topiaries) and I wasn't upset at all. What was I going to do with 30 topiaries??
