Future expansion of I-10

Darby,
My husband and I are trying to find a home to purchase in the Memorial area (b/w Wilcrest and Gessner). We just sold our new construction home in Fairfield because it was taking my husband 1hr 45min. to get to his clients in the morning. And he always works extra late to avoid traffic on the way home. So our 3-year-old and 6-month-old get about 30 min. with dad before bed time. I found a home that is off of Wilcrest but backs up to the office buildings next to I-10. There is very little inventory in our target neighborhoods. My only concern with this property is that the backyard could back up to the I-10 feeder in another 20 years. Are there any plans to knock down the office buildings and restaurants on the south side of I-10 and Wilcrest when the current improvement plan is not cutting it anymore? Let's face it, more and more people are moving out to Katy. In a few years I-10 will be bad again.

Jana,

Good question. I know exactly where you're talking about moving. As far as what will happen for the "next" widening project on I-10, that probably won't happen for another 20 30 years, so by then you're kids will be in college. But when they do widen, more than likely they will knock down those buildings that you might be backing up to. The good news is that the state knows about the sound problems and you'll get an enormous sound barrier between you and the freeway that will only be good for property values, no more buildings and a little more privacy. Therefore, I would recommend that area, just make sure your house isn't on a fault line, they run through that area. Either way, if I'm wrong about the whole thing, I'll probably be dead by the time we figure that out!

Happy driving...

Darby

New question. The Hardy Toll Road! Why do we not get reports on it? Lately it has been stop and go almost all the way to The Woodlands!
