Warehouse Live was swarmed by hundreds of teens hoping to catch one of their new favorite bands in action this past Sunday, March 22. The AP Tour pulled in the next big names in music with a killer lineup of a myriad of different performers including 3OH!3, The Maine, Family Force 5, A Rocket to the Moon, and Hit the Lights.
3OH!3 (a parody name of the Boulder, Colorado zip code of the artists) is the breakthrough rapper duo band of Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte. The two met in physics class at the University of Colorado and discovered they had a lot of musical chemistry. Their beat has a hint of rock mixed with fast-paced techno while they flow to catchy but outrageous subject matter as in their hit song "I'm not your boyfriend baby" and "Starstrukk." Acclaimed for his wild on-stage performances, Sean Foreman was surprisingly calm and relaxed as he waited in his tour bus before going on. "I try to save all of my energy for the show. And after tonight's show, we are off to L.A. to film the music video for Starstrukk. It should be trippy and different." Although most of 3OH!3's hit songs have a club/rap vibe, Foreman says their music is constantly evolving and changing. "We like to keep things different. We don't want our sound to fall into one particular category."
One of the other headliners, Phoenix, Arizona's The Maine, has more of a west-coast mellow rock style all their own. Recently upgraded to a tour bus from a van on tour, The Maine was enjoying their success on wheels before the show. "We are so lucky that we have a career doing what we love," lead vocalist John O'Callaghan concedes. They often get creative inspiration for songs from people they know back home, such as the girl in "The Way We Talk," but are constantly inspired by new and random things. "Someone recently gave me a book, How to talk to girls, written by a 9 year old," O'Callaghan jokes. "Maybe that would make a good song." For new-to-the-scene heartthrobs, the boys of The Maine are still very down to earth and spent the hour before their performance signing posters and CDs for fans. "They are the reason we are here," guitarist Jared Monaco states. "So we like to show them our appreciation as much as we can." They certainly did a good job with a killer live performance that made all the girls in the audience go wild. If you missed them this time, you can catch 3OH!3 and The Maine when they stop in Houston again for the Vans Warped Tour on July 3. Opening band A Rocket To the Moon, created by 20 year old Nick Santino, is somewhat of a hybrid of The Maine and 3OH!3 with some guitar and underlying techno. They have been getting a lot of cyber attention on myspace and even performed their song "Dakota" on TRL last summer in an episode of unsigned artists to watch for. Nick Santino hopes that his music can retain its youthful vibe forever. "I want to keep it sounding forever young. Maybe I will even add a hint of country in the future." After their performance, A Rocket To The Moon hung out at the merchandise table to chat with their Houston fans. A Rocket To The Moon is set to release their first full-length album later this summer. They are also in the prestigious lineup for The Bamboozle mega-concert in East Rutherford, NJ on May 3. The Bamboozle Road Show will be coming to Houston on April 9. 4 CommentsLeave a comment |
