Meredith: FINAL destination

It is FINALLY here... It will finalize your grade, it is your final destination before summer, that is right, it is none other than the bitter-sweet finals!

The final stretch is here before the final tests. So gear up and get ready to go on study-lock down.

I know that the closer finals get, the more my anxiety grows.

I can't help but feel inundated in last-minute projects, semester reviews, and a plethora of information that is filed away in a compartment of my brain that has been dormant for the past 6 months.

So how can you hope to survive so you can see the rays of summer?

Here are a few pointers that I follow that leave me feeling free of fear of failing (or so I hope!)

1. Start studying now! Even though you might not have a final until next week, divvy up the material and do a section a night, so that way you can spread out the information and really absorb what you are reading, instead of having to cram the night before.

2. Focus on key facts. Make a broad outline of what you need to study, highlighting the most important topics, and taking it from there.

3. Make formula charts. For math and chemistry, there are always too many equations to keep track of! I go through all of my old worksheets and write down all of the important equations that I need to memorize so that way I have it all compiled onto one sheet of paper.

4. Practice makes perfect. Go through each section of your textbook and pick out a few sample problems from each different type of problem.

5. Stay up to study. You only have 1 more week left of school. While it is usually best to get the maximum sleep, and while I don't recommend pulling an all nighter, you can afford to stay up late studying because in a matter of days, you will have a whole summer to catch up on your sleep.

6. Remember that it isn't summer yet. While all of your friends may already be hitting the beach, you should be hitting the books. It is tempting to want to dive right into summer, but if you do that instead of focusing on finals, you are sure to see your grades take a nose-dive rather than making a splash!

Finals can be overwhelming for anybody but if you come up with a game plan now, you are sure to divide and conquer!

Just keep counting down the days until summer and when you feel overwhelmed with your studies, remember: "When you feel like you have reached the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!" - Wilferd Peterson

I know EXACTLY how you feel Meredith. I've got 8 finals to take, and they're all next week! I only take 2 a day, but it still gets pretty nerve wracking. Especially since most of them are at least 150 questions!

Your tips sound really good, and I think I'll actually try making some formula charts. Thanks so much!

p.s. Awesome article by the way

I'm looking for a volleyball camp in the Houston area this summer to help me with my weight and form. I will be a junior next school year and need some help in those areas. If you are aware of any camps please let me know.

thanks,
