On Friday, Channel 11 volunteers are lending a helping hand to the Habitat by putting up walls on a new home. It will be the first step in a three-month building process. When it's all finished, a grateful Houston-area family will have their own home. The home is being built in a neighborhood where there are other Habitat for Humanity homes. Habitat owners actually buy their homes at cost, and they get a 0-percent interest loan through the non-profit organization. The homeowners themselves are required to put in 300 sweat-equity hours on their home and others in their neighborhood as part of the program. |
