Dr. Angelou spoke to a sold out audience at Houston's Hobby Center on Saturday. The message she wanted to share was one of hope. "Somebody here tonight might be the one to find the cure for prostate or breast cancer. Somebody is going to do it and that somebody is somewhere," said Dr. Angelou. Overcoming her own obstacles in life, Dr. Angelou doesn't just encourage ambition, personal growth and making a difference, she is the living example. Coming from a poor family in a time when civil rights were still a dream, she is now hailed as one of the great voices of contemporary black literature. She is a poet, historian, author, actress, playwright, civil-right activist, producer and director. Read more about Maya Angelou in Houston |
