2009 June: June 2009 Archives

The Houston SPCA hosted an Equine and Farm Animal Adoption Day on Saturday, June 27. They hoped to find permanent, loving homes for a large number of rescue horses, goats, pigs, chickens and other farm animals.

Racing has gone to the dogs! The Sam Houston Race Park Saturday hosted the Inaugural Weiner Dog Races presented by Petco. The event included a series of races featuring the four-legged speedsters and a pet costume contest open to dogs of all breeds.

On Saturday, June 6, 2009, the 23rd annual American Institute of Architects Sandcastle Competition took place in Galveston on East Island. This year, 71 teams competed for the coveted "Golden Bucket" award.
